  • The similarities with the Dolan prototype! What's going on there?

Dolan made them as a prototype, originally made for the Madison series, which never went into production (the Seta is billed for the Madison), and sold the mould to Dosnoventa as far as I know.

The biggest difference I can see is the seat tube being integrated in the Dosnoventa.

The Prototype was supposedly made in Italy, which may explain the high cost and low number.

  • Out of curiosity, do you know how much such a mould (and presumably the instructions on how to layer the carbon) sells for? I assume a lot of R&D goes into such a thing, so it should be relatively valuable?

  • Nope! these are all base from reading stuff on the internet which should be taken with a pinch of salt.

  • Appreciate your posts anyway, always interesting to read about stuff happening in the industry. :)

  • sold the mould to Dosnoventa as far as I know.

Ah ok so its been reported they bought the mould, fair enough then I suppose.

Just a little surprising a brand like Dosnoventa would do it. But I guess that the cost of designing and producing a frame like that from the ground up would be higher than the cost of buying the mould from Dolan.

Dosnoventa's rrp on the frame regardless of small production runs I think is still ripping the arse out it though!

  • Just a little surprising a brand like Dosnoventa would do it

Most manufacturers do that anyway. Even the big ones.

  • No way a little fixie skidder brand like Dosnoventa would have an R&D department capable of making a competitive carbon frame and testing facility for it.
Are their alloy frames made in Asia?

  • Yep, I know this and shouldn't be surprised really.
Of course lots of brands buy moulds and put a logo on. It's the fact that the Dolan prototype was in the public domain and Dosnoventa then rebadged it. They consider themselves to be cool as fuck fixie skidders but rebadged a known frame.

  • Yeah but make the seat tube real long and maybe nobody will notice

  • On that topic, is that really a fully integrated seat tube? Isn't seat height the first thing everyone wants to adjust usually, i.e. is this ever a good idea?

  • Bikes aren’t designed with resale in mind

  • Yep, then hope to draw attention to huge oversized horrible brand logo on down tube.

  • Integrated seat post is always a bad idea..
Consumers purchasing decisions are often formed with resale in mind @PhilDAS!

  • Yes but... are they manufacturing these things in single mm increases? Or are you supposed to get it custom-built? People's leg lengths vary quite a lot...

  • Usually, you get ISPs at a reasonably long length and you're supposed to cut it down to fit you (incrementally)

  • Oh I see. Well I'm not planning on messing with that any time soon. What if you change your crank arm length...?

  • Mast toppers allow for small adjustments.

  • Both dosnoventa alloy and carbon frames are made in Italy, by two different factories. Their alloy frames are made by http://www.univertelai.it/en/ which also build frame for Supernova, Rodagira....
And carbon frames are made by Sarto as i can remember.

Btw, I'm also selling this Nagasawa for 500gbp only

Doesn't make them any bad, it is much harder than people realised, MASH was successful because they work with Cinelli who have access to tools and manufacturing enabling them to deliver new frames.

The price is indeed very high, but not unreasonably so for the reason mentioned in this thread.

  • Yeah fair doos really.
I just really dislike the brand. The blurb on the website is nauseating.
I think I've just got old and cynical and find the hipster brands irritating.
Deep down I'm probably just jealous.
