  • What a brawl that gonna be. Livestream?

  • ESPN Pay-per-View. Tire fitting is massive in the USA...

  • Tape - It takes up space. Space is what you need to get the beads into the middle to give you some extra slack to drag the last bit of bead over the rim.

    This.

I sometimes put two layer, even three layers of tubeless rims tape if the tyres is too loose on the rims when converting it into tubeless to reduce chance of air escaping while inflating.

  • I think mine is 2 wraps. Can't remember who's directions I was following but I could inflate it, without tyre jizz, using one hand on a track pump and the other on the tyre. Skillz. It remains unridden :(

  • Thinking of ordering a set of these (40C WTB Nano TCS Light Fast Rolling Tyre - just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?) for my CdF for riding through some winter mud. Anyone got any experience with them?

  • I was gonna ask something similar. Looking for a 700c tyre for cx (maybe race, but local area has similar conditions, lots of mud) but am happy with 40+c. Is this a bad idea? It seems a shame to waste all the space in my bike when I don't care about uci rules

  • I plan to buy Resolutes for exactly this purpose when I wear my current tyres, unless somebody suggests something as versatile and capable.

  • I have g-one in 30mm on my commuter. I can run up to 40/41 with mudguards. Which off-road tyres could I use if I wanted to act stupid and go mtbing. Nothing too technical. x'plor mso?

  • Thanks, there goes my lunch break.

  • Yeah, I’m using 40mm Nanos at the moment. They don’t grip all that well in sloppy mud. Was getting a bit of wheelspin. Also getting sideways quite a bit, but there’s some grip on the edges so didn’t find myself going down. They seem to be good for road/mud combo rides, which I do a lot. If I was off-road only then I’d get something more aggressive.

  • Cheers for sharing your experience - your example video is exactly the kind of riding I'm usually up to in winter. Silly messy exploring rides!

I guess I should settle for a compromise since I seldom do mud-only rides as I live in a city & it takes a while before you get to the mud. Not getting much riding in for the rest of the year, but will probably give them a punt in January.

  • The only thing that I've found in 40c that looks decent in mud are Vittoria terreno wet G+. Anything else is too gravel/mixed terrain oriented with too small knobs too tightly packed.

  • I recommend these, they don’t look very aggressive when compared to tyres like the Limus from Challenge, but they have great levels of grip, clear mud well and roll nicely on firmer surfaces.

  • Good shout then, thanks!

  • GP 5000 tyres at Bikester on a 32% discount with a further 20% off using the code BOXINGDAY18. Cheapest I've seen them yet by a long long way...

  • Nice, duly snaffled. Hope Bikester is legit, not heard of them but decently reviewed

  • They're definitely real, I've ordered stuff from them - customer service was a bit iffy but not a scam!

I'd have ordered the tyres myself but don't think they're the tubeless ones.

  • checks that they are clincher

Oh. Totally unable to tell from site or confirmation email. Will be in the sales thread if they are the TL version!

  • They are really good from my experience. Got the wrong thing from them, phoned up, got a free returns label sent out and ordered the new item same day. Full refund and the item I meant to order arrived really quickly.

  • Probably going to end up being around £30 a tyre in future anyway, but couldn’t resisting buying 2 pairs of the 25mm :)

  • Slightly O/T but could't find a 'what inner tube' thread.

I've switched to 28mm tyres (from 23mm) on my winter bike (Pro4 endurance and next I will try GP5000) and I have been using the last of my Vittoria Ultralight 19-23 inner tubes in them.

Now I need to get some now inner tubes and was wondering if there is a inner tube of choice for 28mm tyres on 30mm deep rims? I want them to be as small as possible when packed as I carry them in my pocket or on longer trips will take quite a few.

Is it a really bad idea to use 19-23 tubes in them? So far I have had no issues - punctures I have had are due to big bits of flint/glass that would have punctured any tube.

  • Latex tubes, 19-23 tubes are fine
