Ugh, thought I’d pop on the reliable skx007 today only to finder the crown really hard to turn to adjust day/date and time. Amazon have said they’ll refund in full (it’s less than a year old ffs) so I’m considering getting something similar with the money like a Steinhart Ocean 1 - any other decent similarly priced alternatives?

I presume that is the bronze one?
I couldn't work out why the ten times price difference but yours is rated four times the depth than mine.

Thanks everyone for buying advice on it. Made my Christmas.... Year..

not gonna brag but i suggested it :)
fantastic that your dad loved it. I so want to get my father a nice piece. hopefully some day.. -

Yes, bronze one. Got it in 2013. It's a proper unit. Favourite watch in my collection.
Ten times price difference? Think this one was £1050. Has yours got an ETA inside too?

Squale. Bonus points for actual diver’s watch heritage instead of ripping off other people’s.

Looked yours up.
Think the biggest differences are Seiko vs ETA, Brass, vs Bronze, thicker case, thicker sapphire.
Edit: The ETA is roughly x6 more expensive than the NH38. Not that your watch is any less good at telling the time than mine!

My bad. Bronze is $1.3k, brass is $350.

To be honest it isn't going to be in a diving scenario. Caving may be the closest it ever gets.

Still want a Jaeger-LeCoultre Mk XI. Realised I'm never going to be able to justify buying one. Bought another poxy Garmin Fenix. Out...

You can find hundreds of pages of arguments about Bronze vs Brass in watch forums. I've never seen a believable reason why either is superior for a watch.
In marine applications, bronze has always been seen as superior to brass as brass is far more reactive to sea water but as far as I'm concerned, for watch cases that aren't in the water all day every day, the main decider is which tone of patina you prefer. And price

Liking the look of these 4R35-powered Seiko 5s. Silver, blue or black dial, maybe a couple of mm too big but look like good value. Even a display caseback if you like that kind of thing.

http://www.gnomonwatches.com/seiko-5-sports-active-blue-ref-srpb89j1I’m half tempted, just to have something with a silver dial. (Maybe related, think I’m starting to have a weird thing for a modern silver dial Rolex OP).

The blue has been on my watch list for quite a while, cheap on city watches atm
I’ll stick to mulled wine 😁
