  • It'll be worth 20k after 8 days

  • Good luck to anyone ever wishing to find someone to service one of these in the future. In my opinion it’s designed to solve a problem which doesn’t really exist. And as a compromise you end up with potentially increased wear due to increased torque, and a single plate instead of individual bridges which I presume is to provide rigidity.

  • 20K after 8 minutes . saleproof after 8days.

  • What problem is that?

  • Maybe buy it second hand? Buying watches as an investment >>>>

  • In my opinion it’s designed to solve a problem which doesn’t really exist.

Welcome to the wonderful world watches

  • still really want a LHD

  • you only have to ask........

  • That's *not * one to have!

  • thought i'd share this with the watch people of lfgss.. i hope i won't get thrown out by the purists :)
it's kind of a current project - it will be a gift for the gf.

i scored a tissot 784-2 caliber off ebay with a few parts missing. after realising that no shop will take it and sort the parts + put the thing together, i went full bender and thought "fine, i'll make my own watch...". got all the bits from 5 different countries and after a ton of reading + the magic of youtube, i took it apart, cleaned and lubricated it and put it back together (i've messed around with scale models, but fuck me these parts are small....). it works (yay!).

since there's only a few watches that i like "as they are" from the manufacturers, i didn't want to look for the original case. since i really love the skeleton designs where you can see all the internals, i wen't ahead and spent some time in inventor:

i got the glasses, the o-rings and the screws. the case will be machined from stainless steel (some time in january). it's going to have a mesh-type bracelet and i was planning to paint the hands yellow as i didn't want it to have a proper dial (also a nod to braun). the longer pointy bits on the black "dial"-thing are supposed to highlight the date.

  • Bat shit Cray Cray.

    R u a design / engineer / grad per say?

  • All the cheapo HK watches running piece of crap ‘automatic’ movements with skeleton dials have really ruined that aesthetic for me. Looks like you’re gonna have a great little watch to enjoy, but I would totally stick a sterile dial on it.

You could still have a display back to enjoy looking at the movement. The underside is the more interesting anyway.

  • @Ordinata - mechatronics engineer and die hard diy-er :D

@pdlouche - i get you, but this is a proper automatic, innit.. :) although i don't like it 100%, this was the inspiration (for the dial ring and the protruding brand tag):

  • Ace project. Nothing I would ever tackle so I doff my cap to you.

    doffs cap

  • That caliber looks like the Omega/Tissot movements which they shared for a while.

Whatever you do when designing the case, pay careful consideration to the “stem height”. It will probably be quoted in Ranfft as a value “T” but you’d have to also add the dial depth if you plan on using a dial (which I would as the dial side will be fairly dull).

  • Great project, totally bonkers... My only criticism would be that your lugs are a little on the agricultural side, they could use a bit of finessing imvho... Apologies if this is just a rough, can't wait to see the finished thing... 🙂

  • So...

Who, on the 25th, are doing 'reveals'?

  • Me for one, you've seen it already, but xmas watch...

  • since i really love the skeleton designs where you can see all the internals

As it’s going to be a gift for the gf, what does she like?

  • Re. The 25th
    I have already revealed!
    Santa’s sack might be empty!

  • Why the hell would anyone where a lhd on their left wrist? really missing the point

  • It’s probably better on the left wrist as the crown won’t dig into the back of your hand.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the LHD but usual Tudor dive watch caveats apply, too thick, dial text out of control etc
