  • So I need to rewire a plug, and I got myself a new plug from my local DIY shop. I have just realised now that the original plug has a 3A fuse but the plug I got from the shop has a 13A fuse. Can I use it? Or is it too powerful? I think the shop might be closed now for Christmas so would be a few days wait to swap the plug, not end of the world but would rather get the plug fixed.

It’s for an amplifier... I have not rewire a plug before... but it looks pretty straightforward...

  • Dead easy, just be sure to cut and strip the wires to the correct lengths. You can buy fuses anywhere, your local Tesco or ASDA or even some corner shops.

Depends on the current going through, you could use a 3A fuse to be super safe if that’s what came out. Suppose you have no way of knowing if it requires a 3A, or actually that 3A was thrown in when a previous fuse had blown and there were no 13A to hand?

Pics from google, but the paper that should have come with the plug has lengths like so.

By the way as far as I remember, if you notice the wires are red and black, not brown and blue, the wiring is incredibly old and ‘recommended’ to be replaced to modern spec.

  • Get a pack of fuses or swap the fuse over from the old one.
