Freehub on my Sandman Gobi's FatLab hub got a bit sticky (fluctuating, freewheel for a bit then top run goes slack and catches the edge knobs of the tyre) back in September. Hadn't made the time to check it out so needed to bodge up a gnarlier bike than my Straggler (750mm flat bars, 1x11 Di2, Conti RaceKing 29x2.0, "adequate" clearance) for an imminent week in Scotland.
Bought this frame for my other half to fill the gap between her Genesis Caribou steel fatbike and her chinese carbon 29er hardtail, but I didn't check first and the graphics are a bit loud for her.
Wheels were from Planet X in a sale a few months ago, probably not reduced that much in the grand scheme of things but wide rims, black, not too heavy etc.
Last year when I was working out how to fit Cannondale Hollowgram Si cranks into by fatbike's 100mm BSA shell I bought the 160mm FatCAAD 1x axle kit and the chainring lockring tool, plus a 125mm "AI" axle for a non-fat idea. I ordered a J&L "ceramic" BSA30 BB which took ages to arrive from the far east, and also a RaceFace BSA30 BB from CRC which I ended up using. While waiting for the BB(s) to arrive, I won the game of eBay and found some SiSL2 cranks for about £70, leaving the lower spec Si arms as spares.
The J&L BB cups aren't as wide are the usual 10.5mm external cups, so I've managed to fit the Si arms onto the 125mm axle in a 73mm BSA shell with symmetry, though I need to find a better combination of spacers seal and wavy washer for the NDS. A little draggy so I suspect I need to relieve a little excess preload from where the axle's slightly raised bands were shoved through the inner races, plus the BB's stock rubber covers being quite soft.
Been on the lookout for a reasonable value fork in sales and on eBay for a while, restricted by the frame's relatively short travel and the wheels being QR. Got these Manitou air forks from CRC, matte black with medium blue decals, about £235. Annoyingly, the 15mm boost version is under £200.
Had to dash to Merlin Cycles tonight for a crown race, since the used frame came with the rest of the headset, and some tyres.
