  • On a black leather strap tho ay.

  • I use one of these. Dead easy.

  • Same here, except I use a loupe also so I can see clearly what I am doing.

As Radar says, its really easy but its also easy to scratch the case. I've got one watch in my collection in particular that has really bad strap changing scratches. The previous owner might as well have taken a hacksaw to the back of the lugs. Super pissed that I didn't notice. Lesson learned.

  • I've got a seiko 5 that is loosing time and the power reserve isn't lasting very long. Is this something I can fix? Servicing is uneconomical and im not sentimental about it.

  • i find this to be easier.

  • Which loupe and level of magnification would you recommend for general watch geekery? I occasionally think about picking one up but I don’t know what to buy. Also, not sure it’d be good for my sanity if I started seeing all the flaws and dings that I don’t notice just now.

  • I mostly use the plastic Bergeon ones that should be available for about a tenner each. x4 ish is what I use for most things. Up to x10 for working on a movement.

I'd say x4 is a good starting point for inspecting a case or swapping a strap.

  • You can also get magnification spectacles. Pretty sure my pair are split field. Rarely use them but useful for the odd job.

  • Thanks for the loupe chat, chaps, I’ll have a think about it.

This arrived this morning. Really happy with it:

  • That looks ace! My despatch notification came this PM, so hoping it arrives tomorrow...

  • Seriously nice. Bit jellies.

  • Why's it so small?!

    (jokes!)

  • Proportions are really nice and the dial looks beautiful but aren't the minute and second hands a little long?

    How's the adjustable strap?

  • They are a little bit longer than on a 1016, it’s true.

The adjustable clasp is actually pretty good, but it is quite thick, as I expected. Living with it so far, it’s not overly obtrusive.

Overall, compared to the original PRS-25, the watch head of the new one is improved in lots of subtle ways that add up to a lot. Very impressive. The old bracelet has the edge, though. The new one is very good, but not quite as buttery smooth as the old one.

  • Love your background though. Really cool.

  • Family stunned as watch bought for £300 sells for more than £50,000 at auction

  • Looks great. Better than Eddie's photos. Jelly.

  • Looks very nice. Any photos of the clasp?

  • Totally forgot... saw this in the pawnbroker’s window down the end of Walworth Rd yesterday, near M&S.

  • As you wish!

It’s not awful, it’s well made and it works very well, but it’s too big for the size and style of the watch. If it was on a 40mm diver, I wouldn’t have given it a seconds thought.

  • Appreciate it. Thanks.
Sadly looks too big for my cyclists wrists

  • Arrived this morning in time for the Friday watches and bike bits shot. Alas, the jeweller's screwdrivers I use for my Speedbird's bracelet are too big for the Everest's, so will either have to see if I can find a cheapo set in town or ask my local repairer if he can take a couple of links out...
