Fully aware of the history of 'moron' and 'idiot' (see also: 'cretin'), but neither carry the same charge, as they are not in use as a slur for mental disability. Both would have worked equally well there, as would 'stupid', or even 'brain-dead'. To put this in the blunt terms of the Internet's Friendliest Forum, unless talking about deceleration and coefficients of friction &c., it's really best to steer clear of retardation and variants, as otherwise you sound like a bit of a cunt.

I mean I'm fully aware of what this was about. However, I'm getting a bit fed up with people dropping hints and feeling clever about it. Say it, or just shut up, basically.
Also, I wasn't even using it to describe a person here, but I stand by it in any case, because that concept really can't be described in any better way.
Btw, people will probably be delighted to know that the words 'idiotic' and 'moronic' have the exact same history.
