    That was my understanding, but it doesn't appear to explain judder with hydraulic discs. Or any disc brakes.

    I was wondering whether a cable hanger mounted on the canti studs (like a brake booster) would be any good - ought to be even better than a crown-mounted one as there is no flex between the studs and brakes, and would work for suspension forks and forks with no drilled crown. Does it already exist?

    I made a set once, definitely an upgrade from remote cable stops but V-brakes are a much simpler way to get the same effect.
