Nice Iain Banks collection. My trade paperback of Use of Weapons is nearly falling apart :(

inb4 DJ cut his tree down himself from his own woodland and all his decorations were handmade by his neighbours in the quaint radio 4 drama he lives in

Use of Weapons and Excession are both barely held together with tape. The same can be said of many of my Discworld books..
Wrapping paper is ikea and it’s Fleurs 3rd Christmas with us. She’s ripped the bows off a few pressies but only her interest in the tree is drinking out the base.

Brilliant. Afro-moomin with bauble earrings especially.

My wife has rather cruelly forbidden the prized ornaments that I've collected over the years from being displayed on the outward-facing side of the tree because she says they're 'too tacky'. Even the standard silver and red baubles I usually use to fill out space were thrown back in the box because they don't match her colour scheme (she's used only brass/gold or plain unpainted wood ornaments). To be honest I quite like the tree to be a bit tacky and was surprised how upset it made me; most of my collection was sent to me by my family on the run up to various Christmases so they feel very personal.

That's rather unkind of her I feel - Christmas is a time for meaningful mementos and joy, definitely not for overthinking the appearance of things - you've put a whole bloody tree in the lounge, it's already a bit silly. Those ornaments should take pride of place. Hopefully she comes to her senses next year.

Agree that you should be in charge of the tree decor next year, kit the whole thing out with your baubles and take a trip to Poundland to tack up the rest of it.

To be fair she did ask for more creative control on the tree this year because we always use my decorations (although some of 'mine' are little wooden figures her mother sent us from Spain which I like and she doesn't), and a couple of the things she bought are genuinely nice. Sadly when we went to an RHS garden recently she vetoed these amazing fruit and vegetable decorations:

I see your Santa is on-trend, seated on his brexhit Unicorn.

He is however “ethnic Santa” which may enrage some Brexiteers, he was quite tricky to come by but the star of the show I think.
