mud specific wider tyres, e.g. 700x40, anything good?
Haven't tried, but Soma Cazadero could be another contender.
They have a continuous tread running down the centre so aren't the slightest bit grippy in the mud. Fine on the road in pumped up hard though.

I'd like to do some touring on my 29er, probably a mix of road and off-road - what kind of tyres would be suitable. Probably not looking to pay more than £40 per tyre

How off-road, and what terrain? Depends whether you'd rather compromise speed on road or grip off.

Conti X-king or race king

Quite liked my Kenda Happy Medium 29er tyres, provided its not muddy. Center is nearly slick, with nobbles at the side. More skewed to the road/easy bridleway side of things, but still capable anywhere provided its not a mud bath.

What universal tyres for offroad riding on Tricross Singlecross? It's going to be an auxiliary bike for my stays at family place, so staying low on budget. Considering Smart Sam (front 1.6, 1.75 or 2.1 might even fit, rear 1.6) or Conti X-King/AT-Ride (2.0 or 1.6 front, 1.6 rear).

Thanks folks, some good options. Tour would be across Spain, so probably dry tracks/gravel/roads

Conti Grand Prix range all good, and good value. I bought loads of the 24mm when GBP/EUR was favourable. Condor still recommends the 25mm as an all-rounder. The 'Classic' variant is just styling.

So my 25c Conti GP4000II come up as 28mm on my Hunt carbon wheels.
If I go to 28 would it follow that they’d come up 32 ish? -

Yeah mine are huge. I think 31 often gets banded around as a measurement

A few weeks ago I bought NOS Suomi (Nokian) W240, they arrived with a bit of bend in dire bead, I mounted them hoping that they will straighten themselves. Not ridden yet, but I have demounted them and looks like wire goes out, like pictured - when touching it is sharp. Can this tyre be used? Will it cause punctures? Should I bin it or is there any way to fix this?

Gave these a punt for £20. Required a hair dryer to warm them up enough to fit them though.

I have 32 4 seasons on my stock Triban (tubeless ready) disc wheels. They are almost impossible to get off and on again; last week I hit a pothole and got a puncture and it took FIVE PEOPLE to get a new tube in and put the tyre back on. This week I got a tiny bit of glass in the other tyre and the same thing happened. Basically I can't remove or put the tyres back on myself and is insanely tight both front and rear.
I know Contis are traditionally quite tight but I've had various on different wheels (including other tubeless ready ones) with no real issues before. My other rim-braked bike has Hunts + GP4000s, they're fine.
The stock tyres that came with this bike are also really tight. I've tried GravelKings with tubes: impossible, had to send them back. Is this a case of whatever tyres I put on these wheels will be very, very hard to get on and off, or is there an easy winter tyre to mount onto difficult rims? Or should I just get new wheels? Urgh.

Tubeless is ruining cycling. You heard it here first.
On a slightly more serious note, what rim tape are you using? You might be able to get something thinner in which will give a little more wiggle room.

Whatever shit stuff came on the wheels. I do have some other stuff somewhere, is it worth trying?
-
• #5972
Depends what it is and how thick it is. I've noticed tubeless ready rims are a bit more tricky to fit tyres to but there were some annoying combos in the past, before TLR, so perhaps it's no worse than before, just seems it.

Ma40 rims ! What a mare they where

Yeah. What a massive fucking pain in the arse. I basically need it sorted for Friday as I'm taking the bike away for Christmas but at this point I might just take my summer bike as I know I can get the tyres off that.
Or I might retire.

What other brands of tyres have you tried? What size tube are you using?
I really rate my 28c Grand Prix Races. Great value. They make it in 32 too
