Rubbing greasy dirt where of the steerer against the headset bottom cup.
The sleeve which enlarges the steerer from 25.4 basic dimension to 26.5 for the crown race press fit is much longer than it needs to be, and the cup has been designed to clear only 25.4 on the reasonable assumption that the enlarged portion would be only slightly longer than the crown race. A bit of #judiciousfiling should solve the rubbing.
I understand there's precedence of noises coming from QRs and people go crazy as they think it comes from headset... But in my case, with my ear right near the headtube I am sure it's not coming from anywhere else. The noise also comes with the feeling that there's some resistance in the steering when there's weight on the handlebars (noticeable at low speed out of the saddle resting on bars). I took the forks apart (again) add this time I noticed what accredites the theory of flex in the steerer. Rubbing greasy dirt where of the steerer against the headset bottom cup.
Really think it's too much asking to a 1 inch steerer to be that long (uncut), unless someone's got an idea I feel it's time to revert to my original steel forks...
