Doesn't the minimal require a crown race?
Yes it does. There's a noise under weight, can't determine if coming from the top or bottom part of headset. Steerer is uncut, I'm using the full height. I thought steerer flex, especially with shit spacers with poor tolerance could be the reason, but I'm not sure.

That sounds far fetched unless you have a lot of them and they're particularly wonky.

First thought would normally be with the QRs rather than the crown race. Could be not night enough, or just not be interfacing well with the drop outs.

QR as in quick release? From the wheel's hub? They're alloy on the minimal. Although it's hard to see where the noise comes from in the head tube area, it's definitely coming from there.

Sound travels by vibration. See cannondale thread for several people thinking their bottom bracket was creaking which turned out to be rear QR

Got more than I'd like, but ideally I don't want to slam it. They're really bad spacers.

That's ugly enough to make me consider making 1" spacers 🙂

Yes please!
I had made a single spacer out of a bit of 1-1/8" steel steerer, was perfectly matching the outer diameter of the Nitto stem, but the fit wasn't perfect around the carbon steerer, so went for purpose made alloy spacer hoping for better resolution of my noise problem but they're hardly a better fit. -

SJS sell 1" spacers that are good.

I wonder whether part of the issue is the stem, the faces don't look very flat. A kiss from teh facing cutter might not go amiss.

@Cycliste's nephew Dylan needs his first bike with pedals. He is obsessed by the police and wants to be a policeman more than anything else in the world. So, take one Islabike that's already been used by 2 nieces, and...

My caad9 creaked badly, had various mechanics address the BB to cure the problem. Finally the ever brilliant Dan Braid @ sigma Kingston diagnosed the headset was at fault! Said sound travelled down down tube

That's one I didn't think of checking... Thanks. I've got an other one inch stem, a good quality 3ttt from the mad planet x sales years ago. Sadly the Nitto isn't open face, not a straight swap.

Sorry to be a pain, they have a few options, would you happen to remember which ones you got?

Amazing! Please report back on how it's received

Well, if they are a snug fit and solve my problem, easy enough to strip and polish them...
Thanks @Señor_Bear

Will do. Now finished the build. The Yokozuna Reaction cable outers were possibly overkill, but they were offcuts.

This turned into a fast build, all it needs is a test ride

This is fit.
Mine has been ok on the two rides I have done so far. There's no noticeable play in the headset when properly tightened or judder when braking which would be the signs of a poor fork/headset interface.
The last Colombus fork I had had slightly misaligned fork tips which put the wheel a few degrees off-centre.
Doesn't the minimal require a crown race? The Hylix forks have an integrated bearing race, I'm using a CK Nothreadset with mine.
