  • Yeah, but it's 95% as nice, at 1/20th - 1/30th the price...

  • Yeahyeah :)

  • Here's another 95% accurate @ 1/500th cost. Still going strong. (cosc) 😎

  • Also. While a 5k Explorer 1 might be unrealistic. A 500k Panda is for the 1% only. 😎

  • Don’t know much about it, just parroting what I’ve seen written!

Whether it’s the movement or not, that Daytona imitation has been at the pies one way or another.

  • Afternoon all,
Some of you may remember my quandary regarding purchasing an Omega Speedmaster. This started earlier this year and has been stressing me out.
Well, some news, yesterday I made a decision to purchase one. (Well my wife is treating me). I have been in contact with ejay2.0 quite a lot regarding my queries and he was able to supply a Speedmaster which arrived today.
I can’t say how grateful I am to ejay. Top bloke!
So today is Christmas and my birthday rolled into one (without the beer) - it’s Speedy Saturday this week!!!
    Thanks again Edward.
And thanks to all who pointed me in the right direction.

  • It’s not for me, but they do look better front-on. And the pushers seem to line up with the crown.

  • I don't mean to be a Seiko-basher, but I just wouldn't want a watch with one of their lower-end movements; they just aren't great compared to ETAs.

  • Nice!!

I was a buswanker earlier which meant enjoying something other than quartz.

  • Thanks all.
I’m rather pleased that I bought it (understatement of the week).

  • Glad to be of service.

  • Rushed and wonky, but better than nothing...

Will make some more watch pouches from leather once I make some adjustments. The omega symbol was cut onto reflective film so sits well against the thin glove leather.

  • I feel the same about the Miyota in the Everest models. I appreciate the low price, but I’d honestly rather pay a bit more and have it with an ETA, or clone.

  • I'm quite fond of the rotor noise tbh. I accept that I'm weird.

  • Apart from the rotor noise, is there much difference? I'm not a movement connoisseur, but I thought both the Mitoya and the ETA were time-tested workhorses that were much of a muchness.

  • It really depends on and which movements you compare.

There used to be a big gap in quality control between ETA and Mioyta, but even then it wasn't a problem if the movement was "serviced" by somebody who knew what they are talking about. I'm talking bits of swarf inside...

In my view, the low grades of ETA and Miyota are pretty much equal now days. I've never noticed a difference between a well installed Mioyta and a base ETA on my timegrapher. I hear that QC has increased a lot with Mioyta recently also.

As long as the price is right, if it keeps good time and is reliable, that's good enough for me.

  • Anecdotally, Seagull are catching up too. Although I'm a long way away from trusting them to sell me one of their $1000 tourbillon movements. Thats just suspiciously cheap.

  • aah finally :). enjoy it. pretty sure you will love it in no time.. (if you still dont)

  • At the bottom end, if you look at something like the Seiko 7S26, it contains plastic parts, some parts are very flimsy, and I've noticed obvious signs of wear on movements which are not especially old such as on balance jewels. Contrast that with the cheapest ETAs which I've worked on, and their parts are always hard-wearing without any corners cut. The same principal design which they use today for the 2824 was more or less perfected in the 1970's and hasn't changed much since. In fairness though, these ETAs are more expensive, but it's a testament to their quality that they regularly run for decades without servicing.

  • Intereating observation on the Timefactors Daytona.

It's thick, but the same thickness as a Tudor Big Block Chrono (
    https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/1995-tudor-oysterdate-automatic-chrono-time-reference-79180?variant=12155470577739#)

That makes it 2.5mm thicker than the Newman Daytona.

  • 36mm Everest page now up on the TF site; at £320 I hope they last long enough for me to pick one up Tuesday. Otherwise will have to wait until Eddie reopens in January...

  • I can’t wait until Speedy Tuesday! Rather overawed by my new watch on Speedy Sunday
