  • Definitely! The part I ran anyway.

From West Linton to Peebles, which is part of the Old Drove Road and looks as if it's highlighted on the map you linked, would be great for mtb or cross. All single track, farm roads, minor single roads, a few rockier bits and a few patches of marsh. You could definitely take a bike over it and would be great fun.

  • I'm pretty sure me and @mostly_by_bike did the second half of the capital trail including the tracks you're discussing. He broke two chains, fun times.

  • Yup we rode a chunk of the CP trail from Peebles to the pentlands. Nothing complicated and is easily doable on a cross bike with plenty of clearance.

The whole CP trail is worth a ride and all is doable on 35’s. Decent two day affair or super sporty one dayer.

  • Good thread.

I usually have midweek days off (Wednesday and Thursday) so if anyone fancies a ride (road/gravel/mtb) give me a shout.

Also, come spring I’m keen to do weekly or bi-weekly social rides in the evening; 20/30 miles followed by a drink after type thing.

  • I’d be down for that once the weather gets a bit nicer.. see you in May?

  • Count me in as another Edinburgh punter, I’ll keep an eye on this...

  • In edinburgh regularly, but based in Perth! will be following..

  • I look forward to mid week evening rides again. If kinda dropped the ball at organising anything for the last six months.

  • I'm up for this.

Also an excuse for a new bike with gears.....

  • Anyone in Edinburgh got a left hand Shimano 105 5700 lever?

  • Count me in for these.

  • No, but you've reminded me I'm after a (cheap as possible) 10-speed SRAM right hand if anyone's got one? And if there's dead cheap left hand ones out there I might take those too.

Anyone brave the weather today? Good Deliveroo earnings for me...

  • Id be keen for some road/gravel riding once the weather picks up

Not sure if spamming other threads is against rules, but in case anyone local is interested.

    Cheers!

  • Good idea this thread! I'm not really riding except to commute at the moment - combo of busy with work/fam and injury. On a not entirely unrelated note, what replacement bike should I get? Received an Xmas present of £1500 from a bad driver's insurance co to cover the bike - more to come in the future of unknown amount. Must be child seat compatible (and geared cos hills + toddler)

  • Not so loner fifer now. I’m in Dunfermline and always up for generally Tomfoolery on two wheels.

@rwn Giant Tcx. No bad with skinny tyres on the road. No bad with 40c tyres on gravel.

  • I have been looking at some CX/"adventure" bikes... The TCX looks about right but I wonder how it might handle with 15kg of child over the back wheel... (Also does it have a non-circular seat tube? If so it's a non-starter cos of child seat clamp)

  • Its a d profile tube. SO may get away with it?

Plenty other options in that market like the new arkose.

  • No - it's got to be round for the fixing clamp. I've got the Arkose on my list already! Great minds :)

  • Anyone got any Velcro pedal straps they want to sell me?

  • I'm after cheap mini-Vs if anyone's got any...

  • Anyone want to buy this bike?

Totally inappropriate bike for Edinburgh - especially the wheels. I've not ridden it in since before the wee man was born which is a shame so hopefully one of you local (ish) folk might want it. Would consider splitting

  • Does anybody here, in Edinburgh, have a 45t, 144bcd track chainring?
    Pushing 48t is brutal.....

*edit - all sorted with a bigger free wheel

  • I ride with Ronde, couldn't afford anything from the shop bar a coffee or an inner tube, but there's fashionistas in most clubs.. (Personally not a Rapha fan).
A good bunch on the whole: don't knock it till you've tried it..
