  • Seen some around £600 which is what caught my eye...

  • Got a Superstar Pave set up for sale here: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/327890/

  • Looking ahead to upgrading the wheels on this, are these Hunt options any good? I'll be running 35mm tyres. The current wheelset is 23mm wide, 1.89kg, so it looks like deciding whether the extra mm of width is worth a 60g penalty on the 4 seasons.

    Hunt Aero Light - 22mm wide, 1.44kg, £399

    Hunt 4 Season - 24mm, 1.57kg, £319

    Hunt 4 Season gravel - 25mm, 1.63kg, £319

  • Chinese carbon with alu braking surface (either direct or someone in the uk reselling) 40mm ish deep rim - where am I looking ?

  • Tried to get a pair of Hunt wheels in the 40% off sale today. I tried calling for nearly 2 hours straight, busy everytime, finally got through and everything was sold out. 😢

  • CNC-bike have a set of 1378g wheels for €270 - seems a good deal to me?

    Also a set of ~1550g for €170.

    28/32 spokers as well so they might actually survive a ride unlike many weenie wheels

  • That seems well cheap. What's the catch?!

  • Rim is an unknown quantity but hubs are Novatec.

    Edit: actually the rim is a Kinlin XR-200. Probably the weight limit is the catch if there is a catch

    Depends what you want wheels for. If it's purely for a weigh-in, then go for it. If you actually want to ride, 2018 Aksiums are better in every way, including faster on anything but an actual UK-style hill climb, and half the price.

  • Yeah, I was thinking about the hill climbers really. Too expensive for me

  • @Cycliste has some similar wheels I built her, but with Bitex RAF12 and RAR12 hubs. Just under 1300g all in. She really likes them.

  • 28/32 spokes is an odd number. If you need so many chances are that 300g less of wheel weight wouldn't make you any better climber

  • Are there any pre-built wheels with brass nipples other than the Hunt 4 Season Aeros? Looking for similar spec commuting wheels.

  • Looking for some rims:

    • To fit 26x2.3" tyres;
    • Disc;
    • Aluminum;
    • Low profile/box section.

    Nice to have:

    • Tubeless ready;
    • Lightweight;
    • 32/36 hole options.

    Any recommendations?

  • recommendations?

    1. Velocity Cliffhanger if you want nice-but-pricey
    2. Don't ask about 26" wheels in the road wheels thread 🙂

    Wheelbuilding thread is your friend

  • Wheelbuilding thread is your friend

    Yeah, figured as much after I posted this. Couldn't remember another wheel thread. Thanks!

  • Thoughts on Easton R90SL to DT350 for all round nice disc wheels for my Talbot? Noble Wheels doing a set for £450

  • So I ordered a bike online, and the rear wheel is pretty much a write off and can't be trued to perfect.
    I've been in contact and the customer services have said they can see about discounting new wheelset for me. I'm still arguing this, as they should be replacing the wheelset, not discounting another set for me to buy.
    Current wheel set on my summer bike is DT Swiss r470 disc, and the retailer I bought the bike from only carries Roval. The closest I could see as a replacement would be Roval SLX 24 Disc.

    Never had Roval wheels before, how do they compare?
    Ideally I'd be after DT Swiss again, but not fully set on them.

  • Stand your ground, if the wheel you want is like for like, and available, then that is your right as a consumer, if not available, then an equivalent quality/value will be what your after.

  • anyone know what the recommended pads are for vision carbon wheels? i cant find any info, been using swisstop black princes and they seem alright

  • Yeh for sure, I will be. It seems that they only stock roval equivalents, and I'm not sure about Roval as never had them before.

  • Think they are owned by Specialized. Seem ok, from what I've seen at my lbs, not had any experience of riding them though.

  • Anyone have/ridden a set of the DT Swiss PR 1400 Dicut Oxic 21 wheels?

    Opinions if so? What is the Oxic braking surface like? (DT Swiss' version of the Mavic Exalith brake track from what i can tell)

  • I want to get a new rear disk brake wheel for my long distance/bikepacking/ultra racing bike. I have a hand built dynamo front wheel and the matching rear with 28 spokes would cost £290 for my lbs to build.

    I have some DT Swiss R23 Spline wheels for shorter rides, but the rear has had a bit of a kicking so I would like something that I can put my trust in for longer trips including the Transatlantic Way in June.

    Question is, do I go for some Mason X Hunt 4 Season instead as it gives me a whole (slightly lower spec) wheel set for just £30 more. I will only use the dynamo for longer stuff so a matching set would be nice.

    Are they reliable in people's experience? The main difference between them and the single wheel that I can see would be spoke count (24 vs 28) and the spokes (sapim CX ray vs Pillar on the Hunts) and build quality. I think both rims and hubs will be much the same.

    Thoughts welcome!
