Ok, my last post was baiting, but serious question here - you’ve been hearing anti-Semitic chants at every game for 40 years? That’s a real, actual shock. How have you felt to hear that every game, and have you ever tried to challenge it? If so, how and what happened? Seriously interested, not looking to make any points.
The story about antisemetic chants during last night's game was broken by Dan Levene. He tweeted about racist chants in a song sung at every game for the past four decades or so which goes:
"We're not Tottenham nor the Arsenal, bring on scousers by the score, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Tottenham are a load of y**s".
Dan is coming under some unpleasant attacks for raising the issue of antisemitism. Apparently last night there were chants of "fuck off Dan Levene" during the game and he is receiving considerable abuse on social media. He is, however, both correct and perfectly within his rights to raise the issue. Why should Jewish Chelsea supporters (or indeed any other Jewish people) have to put up with that shit and the lame excuses that are made for it? Antisemitism is racism and every bit as bad as anti black racism.
Dan is a jounalist who has focused on Chelsea for donkey's years. He is a Chelsea supporter and active within organisations such as the Chelsea Supporters Trust. He is not everyone's cup of tea but I like him and he has always been very pleasant to me. I consider him a friend.
