Haven’t used CSS rims myself but my colleague has and I’ve worked on his bike.
He uses the recommended pads but they’d been round the world (literally, he did a commonwealth tour thing) and they looked brand new.
In comparison I’ve had CD and ceramic Mavics and it’s definitely a case of when, not if, the coating will come off. Ceramic might be a couple years down the line, CD might be a couple weeks depending what conditions you ride in.
