After my roadie commuter got stolen I've bodged some gears into a donor Pompino... nice and spinny for Glasgow hills. Just needs guards and a rack now

Did you spread the rear to 130mm? is it ok? i'm thinking of doing the same to my pomp
-
• #830
Yeah, I spread it from 120 with no issues so far. A few other people on here have done it too.
There are a couple of issues: the removable mech hanger puts the mech about 4mm further outboard, so it's a stretch to reach the 42t gear on the cassette. And the mech hanger hooks onto the end of the dropout, which reduces the space available for the smallest gear. In this case, it's fine with an 11t. But I think if you did a 9spd rather than 10, there would be a bit more leeway for a less steep range of gears.

Hmm, a wooden saddle could be uncomfortable....ah, where did I put that old mattress?

I love the extension springs that are in tension on the sides. More springs is more comfy right? just stick any kind of spring anywhere

Are they not holding the top slat in place?

That air compressor looks suspiciously like a compressor from a fridge.

The mudguard on the 20" front wheel was too shallow. I took the middle part of a 26" front guard and riveted it between the cut in half old one. Grey guard for width comparison. Does a much better
job now. -

Wanted to switch out an ugly quill stem with obscure 1-1/4” steerer. Nitto straight 28.6mm Ahead adapter seems to be the only one which exists and is >£40. Or thick wall aluminium tube cut to the correct angle and reamed at the top for the quill top cap for ~£5.
