I think the classic rain jackets have always been better than the city/commuter versions.
I won't bring up my own experience as the Raphael jacket is very much not current so not really relevant, but I have a few goretex shells which always impress me for breathability considering I run very hot, so I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation

If it’s anything like the Core rain jacket - same materials I guess - it’ll be fairly boil-in-the-bag. Mine only comes out if it’s pishing it down and baltic, and even then I’ll be Uncle Ben’s within 15 mins.

Cheers man. Think I might wing it in that case.
This is a great/pathetic "1st world problem"

Buy the Shadow kit. There's the answer to your "waterproof" breathable problem right there.

I've got the commuter jacket and it's definitely for pooling about, although I do wear it on 9 mile commutes and it is a bit sweaty when putting in effort over time. However, it's surprisingly waterproof even in a deluge so I think that trumps it's breathability. The reflective bits are a nice touch.

Good feedback, cheers.
I think I'll shelf the commuter jacket idea just now though. Fluoro orange and yellow look so cool though. -

Yeah the trick to remember with the commuter jacket is that it's for people who ride in their work clothes. You aren't supposed to be SCRing in it or gunning it like a twat or whatever.
I have a couple of versions of it - I've always thought it's a good bit of kit.

That rapha festive 500 kit is utter gash
That is all

I like it. There are so amalgamations of simply geometric designs these days tho that this feels massively phoned in. My guess is that Rapha purchased a list of 25 subscribers to *Wallpaper and then spent 90 minutes on their pinterest boards. BOOM! Festive 500 kit.

Said rapha every year before having a sample sale
I'm very happy with my classic rain jacket, wore it in summer over a tshirt and was surprised how non sweaty it was despite having no vents a bit unzipped in showers. Been wearing it this week over base layer and tshirt and have been surprised by how windproof and not cold it is once you get going even though the north. This is mainly commuting and work, so relatively short journeys, but enough to get warmed up, especially on a fuck off heavy cargo bike. Also pretty damn waterproof.
