The English did not spell there names out contempt but to make the names easier to spell and pronounce in English.
The changes are just an attempt to correct local prouncation... if it's was real patriotism they would disregard the 3nglish language as a whole... as said this is just a bout of political point scoring to hide the often inept politicians to keep uneducated locals happy until the next election.
After independence in Zimbabwe all the local names were changed back, Gwelo back to Gweru, Gatoma back to Kadoma etc. It was important, the Anglicised names had to go, they showed a contempt and disregard for the indigenous people that had to be reversed.
