• Oh man, it's been such a headache... Other half and in-laws (what a tag team they are) constantly sniping about it being a shit car, no such thing as a free lunch, not worth fixing up, buy a new one, etc... Feels good to, in the nicest way possible, tell them all to fuck off because we've got an almost absolutely free car that's under ten years old and runs like a peach!

I know I'm old but I hate old people... My parents are the same... "Mum, I've won five million quid in the lottery!"
"Careful, Joe, might be a mistake..."

  • I know that feeling. My wife calls the Forester the "Shitabaru", after the work I put into it when I bought it, the HG failure, the subsequent massive oil usage and engine failure, the rebuild, the turbo failure and replacement....... I should agree but I have never loved a car more!

  • I get the same shit from my mum, don't worry.
Her current position is that I should buy a brand new car, and I don't need a fast family car so I'll be able to afford it.

Part of me is wondering if I sell the Volvo and use as a deposit, personal loan on the rest of the value, buy something outright, but I don't think the numbers will ever stack up on something decent.

  • Our inlaws constantly ask how the car is running and if we still have it, its often the first thing they ask. When we do try and buy a new car, they try to be helpful but don't understand that we don't want to use our savings for a deposit on a new silver astra, and are happy to continue down the bangernomics route.
