The Bell & Ross V2 case is really nice, as is the bracelet. I've really got a thing for the V2-93 GMT. I just think it's a bit expensive for an ETA movement that you can get in watches costing less than a grand. The quality of the design is tip top though. Nice dial, nice hands, etc.
Wish they did a diver in that case. Their square diver has a nice dial. Stick that in it, solid screw-down caseback and done.

Helson has 15% off at the moment with code XMAS18.
Just bought my 42 Shark Diver...
£50 duty and VAT sound about right?

Looks like a bit like a Blancpain but I don’t think it is... or if it is I can’t find the reference...
-
• #31760
Yeah, pretty sure it’s a copy. It came up as a cookie ad but an image search doesn’t show much. Not important, as you were...

After noticing the stain on the dial of one of my watches it’s got me thinking about storage and upkeep of my mainly vintage collection. I’m slowly beginning to get the precious ones serviced but curious what other people do.
Should they be kept in the dark? Old tritium lume seems to yellow nicely but then puff and flake.
Does anyone use those plastic caseback protectors on the rear to stop wrist erosion?
I’m pretty careful when washing hands but is sweat an issue in summer if the seals are getting on?
I’m not a safe queen but don’t want to kill stuff without realising. -

Makes me want a G10 again. -

Awesome. Ronnie O’Sullivan has been wearing one of the new military IWCs lately, over his usual Reverso.

How much would something like that cost to buy nowadays?

my 40 SD arrived with no import duties... but that was to California.
What size wrist you got ? I'm at 6.75" and still not sure the 40 was the right size (but can't justify buying the 42 as well!) -
• #31770
US deminimis is $800 so there is not duty on a Helson SD

oh I never knew that! thanks!

In theory it's 20% VAT but no duty. The courier will also generally charge a processing fee (although there is an argument that you're not liable for that as you didn't contract the courier).
When I ordered one they declared it at $50 for some reason so I paid about £15-£20 (most of it being the processing fee).

I found that when I was looking for GMT watches. The Speedbird I finally got (for ~£450) was the same movement as a load of watches at the £2k mark. It seems that's the main GMT movement for a big spread of watches.
-
• #31774
Yeah it is, it’s in pretty much every GMT that isn’t a manufacture calibre. Including the $799 Squale 30 Atmos GMT.
Real shame that Bell & Ross are so determined to overprice their stuff. Presume it’s to “create value” or something. Some great design but at Tudor prices you probably need to offer people a bit more.

PVD bracelets are definitely a Bad Idea but I think I prefer the PVD case with the STO dial turtle. I have a soft spot for the “ninja turtle” as well though, came close to picking one up before they sold out but realised I prefer the more classic colours and stuck with the gilt one.
