Ha! Fair play. I'll be gearing down, maybe just under 70
-

I'll take people's recommendations for gearing. Never ridden these hills myself. Am also unfit and generally a mediocre cyclist.

I think we all agree that fixed is not the best bike choice for the Peaks, but that is the whole reason for going, yes? I am looking forward to grinding (and probably walking a bit) up the hills and holding onto my bumcheeks on the way down. Ice and bikes whether fixed or free is a shit combo so let's at least go when us mollycoddled Southerners can at least guarantee ice-free roads.

Sounds bang on

Absolutely

This is an awsome route that I have ridden fixed , I had to walk some of the climb from the leather smithy nearthe macc forest but doable otherwise.

I'll put up a Sheffield - Winnats route later.

Aces, thank you!

No way. I've done that, I reckon it was the hardest ride I've ever done. Chapeau for fixed.
@youramericanlover good points all round. Late feb/march then? Not that we had good weather in that period in 2018
-
• #61
Tis quite hard and definitely better geared , I was basing my suggestion on the title of the thread lol.
-
• #62
I'm not really expecting good weather, just hoping to avoid unsafe weather. Spring sounds good.

• #63
OK, here we go. Slightly shorter, slightly more climbing.
Takes in Mam Nick, Winnats, Monsal and, just for lols, Sheldon and Curbar. There's a couple of bail out/in options to suit most abilities.

That last one looks great, especially the Hope to Bakewell section.
Something like Ringinglow, Stanage Edge, Hathersage, Abney (love that climb), Great Hucklow, (Beast of) Bradwell is a way sexier route from Sheffield to Hope, ofc.

If this is after January then I'm totally in.

Its good but bumps up the distance quite a bit.
And if you're taking that route out there's a bunch of other climbs you should be taking in.If this ride goes ahead and is a success then it'll be good to have some options saved up for next time.

This route looks good. I've ridden those roads a lot (with gears). Would love to try them fixed.

I'm in Derby. This looks tough for early in the year. Good fitness required!
-
• #69
Biggest requirement is being able to wander up a hill, bike in hand. I can't wait
-
• #70
I may sponsor an award for the greatest distance walked up a hill due to being overgeared.
-
• #71
Ha ha.
Just off the last route above...

I don't mint climbing 2km in 100km but I can't see most people doing that, not even geared, and much less so in January.

This morning, coming across Strines, blindingly bright low sun, looked like low cloud down towards Ladybower. When I got there, turned out to be freezing fog, and everything except the road was white for the next few kms - visibility 50-100 metres until I climbed out of Grindleford. Two degrees, not even winter yet.
60km, only 700m climbing, 46x17 can wait for another day.

Would people prefer 2nd or 9th of March?
I did it at about 11prm on 48x17 a few years ago, but got up, no dabs...
Definitely using double-fixed rear wheel this time!
