Recently purchased this frame and forks; as the forks were from a different bike I've had to shorten and thread the fork to suit the frame.
However now it has come to fitting a stem I find I can't get it to fit fully in the steerer tube despite the stem not reaching the bottom of the steerer tube.
ID is 22.2mm at top of the steerer but lower where I can measure right the bottom edge of the fork crown. The current stem column is 150mm but only is inserting about 75mm.
I now seem to have a issue on my hands. Can anyone help, what are my options to get a stem to fit a bit lower?

Fairly common that steerer tubes are internally butted to strengthen them around the crown race area. More likely to be an issue for frames with short head tubes.
Options include; cut down the quill on the stem, find a different stem with a shorter quill, find a different stem with a negative drop, live with the increased stack height, buy new threadless forks and stem (thus doing away with the need for fucking great big headset spanners), buy a new bike.

Thanks. Have you ever done this and is this safe to do? I don't think I'll be able to find a stem with a short enough column at the right angle...

Yes. It's a fucking faff if the stem has an angled wedge (as opposed to those that leave the bottom of the quill cut square, and two slots to allow the quill to expand).
Is it safe? Depends on the stem in question, wall thickness of the quill etc. It's your voided warranty/dental work. -

I did. Just be sure that you cut the stem in the right angle and you'll be good to go!

Thanks both.
Hopefully Nitto stems are quite solid. What a faff old bikes are... -

I assume you've tried sticking grease on it and twatting it really hard with your favorite, soft ended, twatting device?

Your a soft-ended, twa...

Ok stupid question incoming, expecting stupid answers: do I need a powermeter? Asking because I uh just bought one.
Don't race, don't intend to, nor do I train because really I've never really considered I have performance targets.
But.. I'm trying to justify it based on
- I've a couple of rides planned in the summer hols I know I won't be able to do unless I'm keeping some conditioning and know where i'm at physically
- no boast post (i'm still slow) but I rarely come home beat from a ride these days. So I know I can give a bit more but I tend to ride comfortably within myself, it would be nice to go a bit more flat out with some known limits in mind - still not overly excited by the idea of bonking in the middle of nowhere on a cold january morning.
Or just sell it again? or maybe play with it a bit and see?

See that's what the logical part of me is saying too

Took all of 60 seconds before I became frustrated enough to get the rubber twatting hammer out.
Will need to get an angle grinder to really show it who's boss. -

Some private sales/closeout rotor 3d+ and inpower stuff.
If I sell the inpower left crank I still have the full 3d+ crankset and noq rings for just above 100eur. Makes much sense to do that.
Plus just ride harder.
If I keep the inpower it's just a few hundred more but then that's a lot of beer money.

Also the option of sanding down the stem exists, I’ve done it a few times on French frames.

Depends what works for you - trying to hold a good average speed on a ride is more motivational to me than a power figure. Or try and make the second half of a ride faster than the average of the first half.

Just ride harder?
Ah, but how much harder?

Heart rate monitor would be cheaper? Not the same I know 🤷🏼♂️

Resisting the obvious double, you won't bonk if you pay attention to hydration and nutrition.

If a circular bucket of depth d and radius r can hold 1 litre, then if d remains constant then the radius needs to increase by what r+x to hold 2 litres? And then as number of litres increases incrementally what happens to x?
Great idea, thanks. More like sparkling perry cork but yeah.
