That cycle ride to town and back was exciting for all the wrong reasons. On the way, I clipped my handlebar on a wooden barrier, taking the corner a little sharper than normal...fortunately didn’t wobble or fall off.
Then soaked with rain even though the forecast said it would have stopped raining, only 30% chance of precipitation.
Totally soaked through, on a different way back I went under an underpass that I forgot had flooded. There was more than 10cm of flooding, and under the dirty water were two large red plastic barriers used by workmen on road/street repair. They had sunk to the bottom. I went straight over them and just about managed to keep control. As a result both my feet were soaked too. Then I had to go back, ankle-deep into the water and pull the barriers out so it wouldn’t be a danger to anyone else.
By the time I got home... it had stopped raining.
2/10 ride timing
10/10 mtb experience7/10 overall (+1 bonus for getting home alive)
(These barriers, whatever their correct name is)

First commute in over a month (oops), after finally re-applying mudguards.
Managed to get the back wheel out of alignment almost instantly, but a bit of TLC fixed it.
Rest of ride was nice, one chap was very jovial with much handsignals.

Extra points for sorting the barriers - plenty of people wouldn’t have bothered!
(I may or may not have bothered....)

Aggressively tailgated at speed on the way home - felt like a TTer with team car following metres behind...

Black Cabbie repeatedly asking if I fancied a wank on the ride home this evening. At least I think that’s what he was asking, the saucy minx. Told him regretfully I was late for my tea, but maybe next time.
Christmas spirit has come early.

The poor sods must really be feeling the pinch of austerity if they're starting to offer extra services on the side...

Lady in massive Volvo SUV on Tower Bridge with phone propped up on dashboard watching the telly. Looked like it was Good Morning Britain, FFS. I mean BBC Breakfast, surely?

Young fella on a brakeless Mash Histogram going down college road this morning having waaay too much fun - unclipping to spin, pulling whip-skids and rocking out to music only he could hear. Made me chuckle.

After a gale and a drenching yesterday, today was crisp, sunny, and a mile-long tow from a flat-bed transit sized thing, good visibility beyond the front. Fun
