Its not mint by any stretch of the imagination. But it could be good! Mine has marks. Looks almost like yours.

Just popped the nato back on this. Haven’t worn it in months. Not sure how I feel, probably because it’s a scratchy cheap nato that I don’t like it.

Got a lot of use in the water on a rubber casio dive starp last year. Perlon is ordered. Might arrive by chrimbo.

If it’s a Speedy you really want, pass on this. Saving is tough but it’s tougher when you keep rinsing the fund! When I saved getting over the £1k mark made me much less likely to impulse buy another £300 watch.
I chose a Ti Seiko for my 21st Birthday (not exactly a future classic) and in the last 18 years it’s become a total beater, scratched to shit and the bracelet is very stretched which they’re prone to do. Still my go to garage/welding/gardening watch.

I don’t see the issue here, once you wear this watch for a couple of weeks it’s going to be in this condition anyway. Yes the seller is a chancer with his description but so what? If the price is fair, buy it and enjoy it.

You can ‘refresh’ Ti back to the factory brushed look using a green scotch brite GP scouring pad. I did it with my Breitling and also my enigma ;)

Looks like one of the older ones, I’ve got the Soprod movement. Can’t fault it. My bracelet shows some signs of wear, but nothing that worries me. The price doesn’t seem that good for not mint condition.

All the moody diamond talk a few pages back has me worried as I’ve just bought a ring from Hatton garden. Where do I take it to get it checked it’s legit?

I think the hand hole sizes can vary. Have a look on the Cousins website for spares.

Thanks to you and @ChainBreaker for the photos. I knew that the Ti would mark more easily so that's confirmed how easily it will mark. How are both of your cases? I've heard that marks around the lugs where the spring bars fit can get marked pretty easily.

Of course you're correct @freddo it's more of question of whether I'd rather pay the extra to put those marks in myself. As bizarre as it sounds. I don't mind the idea of buying vintage watches with "patina" but it doesn't seem quite as desirable on something that hasn't had much wear and is only a couple of years old.

I do really want a Speedy but I've kind of resigned myself to the fact if I'm this cautious about spending $600ish on a watch, I'd drive myself to the brink of despair on a multiple thousand dollar watch. At the same time I feel like once I got one, I'd never have to look at another watch for the rest of my life, which in my current line of thinking, would be great for my sanity.

To my kind there’s damage and there’s patina, the latter from long term wear/exposure to the elements/etc.

For e.g. faded cloth seats on a vintage racer look great, a big dent in the wing of the same car doesn’t. I’d keep the seats and get the dent pulled.

I agree. I like the look of a worn in watch. If it's vintage I'll buy it based on that. If it's a newer watch I'd rather wear it in myself.

In short, no. You can get a good condition Rolex 1500 for around £2000-£2400 (I think I paid around £2350 for mine), and a little more for a 15000. They're not particularly rare and the engine turned bezel on that one isn't very desirable. It looks to be in good condition though.

If you haven't already you should try a few different ones on to see what you warm to. If you still want a blue one with this bezel you'll be able to find one, probably for less cash. Perhaps try on a 36mm 1600 / 16000 while you're at it too.

Also there are very few dealers in Italy I'd trust to buy a watch from. Given the lack of scarcity of this model I would get one from a local dealer whom you can go back to if there's an issue.

This is the Seiko I tried in the shop yesterday. Nice and weighty, and amazing dial. Don’t have the dollar to spend, but had to try it anyway.
