Doesn’t mention the spectrum problem, which is unfortunate.

I just looked up that Galileo is expected to cost 20bn euros over its life. We already paid 1.4bn according to that article.
So we're scrapping that, writing off the 1.4bn and investing an initial 97m into its replacement - 1 / 200 of the Galileo costs, so that won't even touch the sides.
This is another one of those instances where they need to publish the numbers with all the zeros on it - there's too much information lost by labelling numbers as Xbn or Ym.

Sam edit: Gyimah resigns over Galileo mess.
Theregister wrote quite a few articles over the Galileo situation, cha, it's going to cost the UK a mint compared to staying in and using the Galileo system.
-
• #15167
And it’s impossibe anyway as the ITU would have to allocate spectrum globally for our idiot vanity project. They won’t.
-
• #15168
FWIW the 97m is for exploring options, not being billed as a cost for a suitable replacement;
Mrs May has now said the British army will not use Galileo and the UK will instead explore options to build its own satellite-navigation system - having already set aside £92m to look at how it can be done.
Its still a fucking mess and any solution will be throwing good money after bad, but still

Sam Gimyah
'Gyimah'
I don't think anyone will resign who could damage Theresa May. What's going on at the moment is just theatre in preparation for the vote on the deal. I think May will get that through Parliament and the theatre is designed to make her 'success' seem all the greater.
As ever, I really hope I'm completely and utterly wrong.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity, bruv.
Tory MPs - and all MPs, but especially tories - are egotistical shits that think they are amazing. There’s no theatre here, these are people who think they are super duper special and that everyone should listen to them. A lot of the work of civil servants is just patting MPs on the head and telling them how great they are, which is why they were so totally shocked when brexit actually turned out to be, y’know, hard work
-
• #15171
think May will get that through Parliament
You what bruv?
How will that possibly happen?
-
• #15172
Yeah I'm not convinced those resignations make a big difference. It would need the "we say no" voters to actually vote no the 11th...
We won't know until 11 December and even then we may not know, could be a second vote etc.
-
• #15173
Depends on how big the majority is against it on the first vote, assuming there is one. If it’s close, then May could attempt to force it through again, based on the fact that only mentalists (o hai ERG) want to crash out with no deal.
-
• #15174
You what bruv?
How will that possibly happen?
Corbyn whips his MP's to abstain.
-
• #15175
No chance, he wants a general election and the only way that has any chance of happening is if May loses this vote.
Shouldn't they be on Deal or No Deal?
