  • Caught out one too many times with battery lights, I'm going dynamo.

    So:

    • DH-3D37 - QR, 3W, centre-lock (I'd prefer 6-bolt but I ain't willing to pay for SON or SP or whatever), 36h, €25
    • I'll get a rim for like £5 - rim brake so I have both options
    • spokes, call that another £5
    • lights, I was looking at something like an AXA Blueline 50 as recommended in this thread (or the dynamo lights one). Will it explode if I ride for hours in the rain? Is 50 lux enough for just riding around town incl. unlit roads etc.?
    • No idea what sort of light I need on the rear, help? They're pretty cheap at least
    • if I could do USB charging that would be extremely useful. Do I just buy a light with USB, or buy something that goes inline between the front light and dynamo?
    • what other stuff do I need to buy? I assume there's about 50 little connecting twats that I need to buy as well?

All in it's going to cost £100 (?) just so blind road users don't kill me and thieves don't steal my shit :(

  • I've seen those and it's a good deal, but I want a disc hub and they don't offer one. The disc version of that hub is <£25 from e.g. SJS, then the spokes will be 21p ×32 or 36, plus I can find a <500g rim for £5 probably. Will save a few hundred grams and result in a nicer ride, as Decathlon use cheapo rims and plain gauge spokes. If I'm lucky I'll get something tubeless too.
