  • ^ me too!

  • I posted months ago about a noisy fan on my 2010 Pro.
This guy repaired it (near Barbican and Old St) and it is now back to life.

    https://irepairmacs.co.uk/

I could have done it myself, but it isn't what I'm going to spend my evenings doing.
Best thing is to pop in and see him. He seems to start work around 10am.

  • Anyone with an iPhone SE they want to get rid of?

Only that model please, not interested in anything older/newer/better/smaller/bigger/etc.
32GB ideally but would take 16GB.
Unlocked ideally but would take locked to Vodafone.
    Don't care about colour.
Should be working but don't mind scratches etc. No broken screen or other obvious problems.

  • Any 4k / 5k monitors recommendation for a MacBook Pro? Got a budget of around £500 and should be able to get a decent 27inch one, I think...? I hope...!

  • Which will keep me going into the future?

    Air w/1.6GHz dual‑core eighth‑generation Intel Core i5 + 16gb RAM
    Pro w/2.3GHz quad-core eighth-generation Intel Core i5 processor + 8GB RAM

    No heavy lifting.

  • What graphic cards do they have? And with the Pro, you is that the 13 or 15inch?

I have always found the weight and size difference is almost none between the air and the 13incbh pro.

So I'd go for the pro...

  • 13inch.
Air with the Intel UHD Graphics 617
Pro with the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655

Think I'll just stump up a few 100£ for the 16GB RAM pro and see if I get get another 7 years out of a Pro.

  • 100% pro, the graphics card isn't amazing on the pro, but as you have said, if you are not doing any heavy lifting that you'd be able to get more out of your money in a long run.

Have you tried their refurbished nstore, sometimes there are bargains to be had. Or get someone who is a university student or work in Higher Ed, youd get 10% discount if they are there with you when you buy.

Or get them to log onto Unidays for you if you are buying online, which you'd have to if you are going for a custom specs.

  • see if I get get another 7 years out of a Pro

..haha, let us reminisce about that idea right here in this thread in 2020.

  • I’m finding that my new iPad Pro is seeing my MBP stay in my bag fairly often.

  • Could an iPad and accessories replace my parents’ windows laptop? Can they do light Word / PPT type stuff on it?

And in doing so would we realise significant security and peace of mind benefits?

  • I have always found the weight and size difference is almost none between the air and the 13incbh pro

I looked in to this and yes the weight and size difference isn’t enough to justify the air over the pro

  • To be honest, witht the newer MaBook Pros, the weight difference is also very little.

  • Could an iPad and accessories replace my parents’ windows laptop? Can they do light Word / PPT type stuff on it?

And in doing so would we realise significant security and peace of mind benefits?

    I reckon so.

  • I am finding Apple's removal of an easy way to upload to Flickr to be a massive, possibly existential, problem. As in, it's now so difficult I'm considering moving to a different platform.

  • Does that tie my warranty to that student ?

  • Apple's removal of an easy way to upload to Flickr

    What did they do?

Can't you still upload in a couple of ways (website / uploadr / via email) ?

  • The simplest way is to use the web-based uploader in Flickr, the issue there is that if you have (say) 70Gb of photographs on your machine then having zero ability to search is a pain in the arse.

If you have just taken the photographs and want to put them straight to Flickr that's ok as long as it's only a few - if you took loads and want to upload only a few then you run into issues with ease of use very rapidly.

  • I have downloaded the machine-based upload thing, but it's shit and crashes all the time, plus can't sync from the Photo app.

  • So what did Apple remove now?

  • You used to be able to upload to Flickr straight from the Photo application.

  • Flickr was in this menu:
