  • Caught out one too many times with battery lights, I'm going dynamo.

    So:

    • DH-3D37 - QR, 3W, centre-lock (I'd prefer 6-bolt but I ain't willing to pay for SON or SP or whatever), 36h, €25
    • I'll get a rim for like £5 - rim brake so I have both options
    • spokes, call that another £5
    • lights, I was looking at something like an AXA Blueline 50 as recommended in this thread (or the dynamo lights one). Will it explode if I ride for hours in the rain? Is 50 lux enough for just riding around town incl. unlit roads etc.?
    • No idea what sort of light I need on the rear, help? They're pretty cheap at least
    • if I could do USB charging that would be extremely useful. Do I just buy a light with USB, or buy something that goes inline between the front light and dynamo?
    • what other stuff do I need to buy? I assume there's about 50 little connecting twats that I need to buy as well?

All in it's going to cost £100 (?) just so blind road users don't kill me and thieves don't steal my shit :(

  • Connectors: you don't need much, but may prefer to insert bullet connectors at choice places.

Hub:I may have a dh-t780 available soon, pm me if interested. Currently in a rim, may need replacing at some point.

USB charging: use a battery bank unless you reeeeally need it.

Light: B&M eyc has been great around town. Everyone loves a Secula.

  • If you’re on a budget there’s this:
    https://www.decathlon.co.uk/28-front-hybrid-dynamo-wheel-id_8133890.html

Not light, but it’s uses a shimano Dynamo and I imagine with the build it would survive nuclear winter. Plus you won’t cry too much if it gets pinched/totalled.
