  • I don't even understand what I see.
But it is so nice ! Yes to anodizing! Purple I assume. #nineties

  • Internet is not being helpful - people on the forum know everything - here's my simple question.

I've had a peugeot boxer van for many years. I've never had a remote key fob and have always got by with the spare. A dangerous game.

I want to get a blipper fob thing now, it's been on my list for years. How do I go about this? I have no security codes or anything. Just the spare, which is not a remote one.

As a bonus question, any ideas of approx cost?

  • Looks like indies can code a new fob using one of the barrels for about £100 all in.

  • Thanks. Messaged these guys: https://www.carkeyssolutions.co.uk/

If it comes in less than £200 all up, I'll be pleased. Which is mad. It's a just a key.

  • the extra 100 is for the spare copy they'll give to their car thief mate !

  • There don't seem to many at the moment, but when I was car hunting before e46 convertibles were always surprisingly cheap (£2-4k). So as I said thinking out the box an M3 or 330i would be a cheap rear wheel drive option.

All that said a quick look for track and ralley cars looks like they sell for about 5% of their build cost. So I'd just buy someone else's toy then swap and sell the most expensive bits.

  • Listen to you guys and your car knowledge.

Having only relatively recently learned to drive, most of my driving days have been in Fiestas and similar good but small cars.

A few months back I bought a fully specced Seat Ateca. It feels like the fastest, most luxurious car in the world and right now, my total inexperience allows me to believe that I'll never want anything different or better. This reminds me of the first time I bought a decent bike. Long may it last because I'm not sure I'm willing to go down this particular expensive rabbit hole...

Of course, within two years of having my decent bike, I had about ten decent bikes. The omens aren't good.

  • I would like a tool like this: http://www.freedomracing.com/j-45270-wheel-stud-remover.html but in the UK and less than USD 140, can anyone help? My google powers are failing me

  • A true work of art!
    When's it being fitted?

  • Damn - that’s some cool machine work. Dare I ask how much to make them?

  • As a one-off, really expensive. I'm lucky to be doing this with a friend, and we're sharing the costs.

However, in volume these will get much cheaper - and there's potentially decent demand (context: decent demand here is relative!) from others rebuilding their engines.

The one in the pictures is, unfortunately, scrap - but pretty scrap. The tool-path was, erm, sub-optimal, so it can't be used in production. There's already a new billet bolted to the deck in the 5-axis for the new one, waiting on us building up a head with the scrap unit to check tolerances etc.

This as-yet un-machined one will go into a race engine for testing over winter - we'll pull it out in spring and see what it looks like.

Bear in mind that this one is for hydraulic lifters - it's a drop-in replacement for the Porsche one.

The ones for my engine will be modified further for mechanical lifters, so we ill end up with two different designs (if the new lifters are a different size).

  • Anyone clued up about vw Amarok? Which year / engine to go for / avoid?

  • Just did a quick Google search on idling problems in the Mazda3, seems it's a common occurrence when the battery is disconnected as it resets the computer and makes the car think it's brand new... This causes the engine to rev when it should be idle... Easily fixed by letting the car idle for twenty minutes and then for another twenty with air-con on full power... This apparently lets the computer relearn what the engine is doing...

Would be awesome if this was all that was wrong... I'll report back...

  • The V6 diesel is much preferred I am led to believe

  • I’d love it with the v6 but I think it’s just on newer cars, so out of our budget. Gonna try one or two though just to see the difference

  • Where are you?

Have the proper pug/cit software so may be able to help.

  • What do you need it to do?

  • What year and engine?

Does it have an idle control valve?

  • Spotted in Kent.
