  • Ooh, I got one of these in a pawn shop on Friday... £96! I took it to my tame luthier for a setup so that's added on to the cost but still, I wanted one of these when I didn't play guitar so it was nice to finally get one.

The bridge pickup has been replaced with a single coil though, that's a bit sad as the original is missing now, but it did sound quite nice!

  • What a steal! Congratulations on a great find! How does it play? I'd expect it to be pretty great as Yamaha usually is! Pics?

  • What guitar is it?

  • Been watching this since I was sixteen years old... Still amazed...

  • OK, gotcha... Is it a thing?

  • Not really, super cheap and weird. Great guitar when you can buy them for £96! Most of that early 2000s Yamaha stuff is great quality for the price! They're supposedly extremely light and resonant.

  • Can confirm it is light at about 3kg with a poly strap. Seems to be quite a flat radius on the fretboard and it's really very nicely put together indeed. I think it would be good for metal chuggas with the neck pickup and the replacement P90 that's in my one sounds very metallic on its own. They don't play well together in my opinion, might have something to do with a mismatch in output, but when both are on it's quite weak sounding. Individually they're pretty nice though!

  • Shame about the pickups, might be worth setting an eBay alert for a bridge pickup to match!
By the way, they're supposed to be quite sensitive to string gauge as a result of the lightweight construction and aren't really designed to take anything more than a 0.10 set. Just something to have in mind...

  • Ooh that's interesting. I have been favouring 0.11's recently on my Telecaster Cabronita and PRS SE Soapbar II. I have tended to start a guitar on 0.10's then change either up or down once I get used to it.

I now have 10 guitars, all quite low end, and I'm wondering what I should do to rationalise my collection. I was like this with bike about 10 years ago!

  • I wish I'd bought a few more guitars when I was busy buying up all the weird US 45s I could get my hands on... I've got quite a few holes in the collection...

  • Ah nothing wrong with a big collection of oddities! I suppose with very careful selection it would be possible to have it narrowed down to a small handful but where's the fun in that!

What are the 10 anyway now that you have our interest ;)

  • Squier Standard Jazz Bass, Mexican Fender Cabronita, PRS SE Soapbar II, The Sanox, Fenix ST-10, Yam RGX A2

My Epi SG Custom is at the luthier having new pickups put in and new wiring because I failed to manage it!

Also there's my acoustic which is an 90s Korean Epi PR-775s

...and another pic of the Sanox because it's cool as fuck.

That's 8 but the other 2 are really quite shit so no photos. One of them was my first guitar so I am loathe to get rid of it although I don't play it any more

  • So cool. That Sanox is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for when I started googling the Old Washburn I mentioned a few pages back. Love it.

Been thinking about putting a neck humbucker in my Tele. Can't see why not. I think it's already routed for it and has a replacment pickguard so nothing would be irreversible.

  • It came to me completely in bits with no pickups, the guy I got it from had found two and combined them to make one "good one" so I have all the reject bits here haha. Paid over the odds for it and then had a luthier do the rest, I seem to like to throw money at shit guitars! I just thought the body shape was so unusual as to be worth saving. That said, the 80's DiMarzio SDs sound great with distortion, I like to play Sabbath on this beast.

As for your Tele...go for it!

I have a hankering for a Tele Custom. I just love the creamy neck pickup sound for soloing, esp with a bit of drive or compression.

  • Been listening to a lot of Hendrix lately. Mainly live at Winterland. Mind blowing

  • Is the JM Deluxe ST just the same as the normal JM Deluxe minus the tremelo? I'm trying to work out if a tremelo is a good thing or not for a novice guitarist.

  • Get the tremolo version, great fun for a beginner and you can also take the arm out if you don't wanna use it...

Don't fancy the white one? I think it's prettier than the red...

  • Great collection there fella! That Sanox is very cool, never even heard of them! Love the Cabronita and that Epiphone acoustic too! Looking forward to getting my PRS Custom 22 soapbar'd whenever I have the spare cash for it/ stop buying Ibanez's!
Must try and get mine altogether for a family photo!

Would love to see everyone else's collections too if anyone fancies sharing!

  • White is nice but don't want to pay J Mascis premium.

  • I realised I'm now (temporarily) at 10 guitars, basses and acoustics included. Should be going back to single digit count soon, strat was too much of a strat I guess.

  • That Kiesel is beautiful! Vader? What woods and pickup is it?

Glad to see I'm not the only one here with too many strings haha!
