Frightening story. Hope the recovery goes well. If the police are enthusiastic about action it could mean this driver has form and they want to stop him hurting anyone else. CCTV will be the key, if he has lied about her being on the pavement then it won't help his case.
A prosecution also helps you for an insurance claim for injuries, loss of work, new bike etc.
