What was the explanation? I know the SNCF doesn't allow recumbents, trailers or tandems, but I can't see why a rack would make the bike non "standard".
Some SNCF trains don't have bike racks or parking and require une housse for bike transportation.
Most bike bags don't assume you have sizeable front rack and won't close unless you remove it.
