  • Obviously. And lots of butter

  • Tesco cinnamon and plum tarts/small pie shaped crimes against my mouth.

Bought only as nothing else in the Tesco express looked edible, wish I'd bought nothing, borderline rancid.

  • Another pre season warm up, sort of a cross between a mincer and an Eccles cake.

Quality little selecky. Definitely can hang with the big boys when it comes to filling.

  • The name is basically an act of war against mincers though

  • Puff pastry?

    Up against the wall.

  • Hey, I acknowledge it's not a real mincer, like pirate radio played on the top deck of the bus out of your phone on the way to the rave, it's a warm up.

  • Tried the Heston chocolate and sour cherry ones at the weekend. A treat, but definitely far removed from a mince pie.

  • But I can see shortcrust under that pack.
That's like doing cheeky bumps of mephedrone you found on the top deck of said bus to stop you smashing the MDMA you've got in your wallet.

  • Oh they weren't for me. Family came to visit and they don't respect the December only vibes. Well I'll be the one laughing on Christmas day when they're worn out, they're calling an uber at 05:00, but I'm just coming up, the headliner isn't even coming on until 07:00, and I've got 5 boxes of mince pies around me ready to smash.

  • There we go. That's the spirit. You could probably dust them with the MDMA you've got in your wallet for peak "Santa at the Loft" vibes.

  • Any other good options for vegan mincers beyond greggs?

I can assure you that I will be testing all of the 'Free From' ranges from the big 4 (and more) come the 1st Dec.

  • Following with interest.

Also, if anyone knows of any vegan mince meat, I'm all ears.

  • coop puff pastry are vegan and OK

  • I had these yesterday, not that bad. 6/10.

  • Good filling to pastry ratio though, right?

  • yep. i would rate them higher, but it still feels a bit wrong to eat puff pastry mincers..

  • Ach, nowt wrong with puff pastry other than the crumbs. I've been offered the Heston/Waitrose offerings this week - had a lemon one and a cherry blackforest one. Perfectly nice, but not really mincers IMO.

I would think most out there would be. I’m struggling to think of a non-vegan ingredient that would be present. Gelatine might be present in some maybe?

Also, jus-rol (and I think most pre-made pastry) is vegan (palm oil though) - so it’s easy to make your own.

  • Suet, potentially.

  • Yeh beef suet often, sadly.

Just roll + vegan mincemeat was my plan for some super quick home made mincers.

  • This thread is getting me hyped up for mince pie season. I'll be able to find some here in Canada but it wont feel like Mincer season proper until I hop off the plane at Glasgow and run into the Greggs at the airport to get a 6-pack of their finest for the drive home.

  • I just had a minced pie, drowned in custard. Colour me priapic.

  • It's a fair old drive, better buy 12.

  • Had one of the M&S cranberry mince pies last night.

    Shite.

Doesn't taste like a mince pie and it was so crumbly the pastry fell apart when removing the foil case.

    2/10
