Oh god I’m not sure of the model. They are some old ones though they just say cresta on the back.

One x. Pretty hooked on red dead at the mo. If not that then it’s back to forza.
Although with some time off over Christmas I may actually complete Skyrim, then again I prob won’t!!!

I tried them out in richer sounds at lunch - not that exact model. But still so impressed. The bass was pretty significant for a pair of floorstander too. Way above what my book shelf put out.

It might be in the loft for years. I can probably use the money for other stuff.
A good excuse to try something different in a few years too.

How do those wireless powered KEFs get their power? Shirley the advantage of not having speaker cables is cancelled out by needing power supplies to each? Or having to move them to charge up regularly.
-
• #5207
I have RDR2 but waiting to complete my course.
Any interest in destiny or division?
-
• #5208
Mains power for each speaker and a wire to connect them. Not that wireless.

WTF I just looked up the prices of that cartridge and phono stage. That's some serious kit. I can see why you don't want orange juice poured over it.

I can't say I've ever looked into destiny that much, I tried the beta of the it way back when.
However the division I loved the first, the world was honestly one of the best I've seen in a game. Going to keep an eye out for the second.
Let me know if you fancy playing the division at some point.Gamez thread>>>>

I didn't pay anywhere near rrp!
the phono stage is the best I have heard.

So I popped into Richer sounds again today and had the joy of listening to the Dali Zensor 5's.
Really, really impressed by them, for a relatively small form factor too. I think these may be the ones I go for over the Q accoustics.

Good reviews and on a heavy discount right now. how big is your room?

So, I just won a Cyrus DAC XP Pre Amp with phono stage (meh) on the bay, for £500.
Will use the Onkyo as a power amp for now, then get a Cyrus one at a later date.
It seems like a good deal. I think.
(Go easy on me @freddo...)

• #5215
Brilliant! I think that was one of my suggestions ;)
More importantly, black or silver?
-
• #5216
Silver, I would have preferred black, but hey ho!
I'm not sure how using the Onkyo as a power amp will work. I'll have to set it to max volume and use one of the RCA inputs. It has a "pure audio" function which bypasses surround sound processing, so I'll use that.
I have also realised that my Sony DVD player (not been used in a long time) is also an SACD player. I will bang that into the Cyrus DAC and see how it sounds, for shits and giggles.

Oh and yeah, since it is a surround amp, with lots of channels, I can set it to Bi Amp. Which I think it must be already as I don't have rear speakers at the moment.
Which is nice.
-
• #5218
On those Onkyos the bi-amping tends to be the zone 2 speaker connections rather than the surround sound ones.
-
• #5219
I've just had a look at the back of that amp and i am not sure you can use it as a power only amp.
If you are looking to use it as two channel only, then you will need a power amp.
you can use my pioneer as a temp solution, if you need to

13ftx12ft - another big plus is the smaller size won't be too imposing in the room.
-
• #5221
he'll be fine...https://www.cyrusaudio.com/support/other-resources/legacy-products/power-amplifiers/xpa/
They stripped out all the features of the Cyrus Power (mono-bridging, external PSU, XLR connections, MC bus) but left auto sensing in.
Here's the back of the Power for comparison
-
• #5222
I thought it was the onkyo that would be the power amp?
-
• #5223
Oh and also to add, the KEF's will become my bedroom speakers and I'm looking for a small amp to power them (and audio from my PC) currently got my eyes on the Yamaha WXC50 use the optical in from the PC and can also stream to it.
Or do I go for a full sized network amp from yamaha?
ha! ok - that's good man, glad to hear it! Why not just store it?
