  • Ordered a sciatica type cushion.

  • Engine is a "Cosworth Tuned" Ford Coyote lump. It'll have plenty of power and sounds good but I'm not sure how bespoke it is. The design has grown on me, but I wish they hadn't used the Griffith name.
The main problem I can see is that if they wait any longer to get things started with production, it's going to be a very old car before the owners of the first examples take delivery. It should have already been in production by now.

  • look at this little minx

  • Ace, was it slidey today?

  • Two spins. Only three other cars out in the closed wheel session.

  • Winter, bring it on

  • Might get my wheels as early as this week, needs a replacement off side rear light cluster, some new boots and the intake manifold is a maybe... Still cheap... It is an insurance write off because of the hail damage, how will that affect my insurance? Any ideas? Was thinking third party only anyway...

  • Thanks for the insight.
No Passats for sale within budget atm though. I should probably add that I'm in Denmark. Diesels get an additional owner's tax here so we still have a 2002 V40 1.8 petrol in the lead. It's got a cooled glove compartment which got to be a plus.

  • Have any of you lot got experience running a fiat 500 or 126 long term? A mate and I are flying to Poland next week* to try and buy one to road trip it back. Are there any parts worth bringing with outside of the usual plugs, leads and oil?

*With flights for 8 quid each how could we not...

  • Not sure how it will affect personal insurance. Your compulsory third party insurance might be bumped up. Also double check all details on registering a statutory write off. Although I'm comming from a NSW point of view... Qld is different again.

Is it a Mazda 3? Plenty of parts from wreckers for those.

  • This sounds like a great plan! Subbed.

  • Parts to bring back:
    CBR engine.

  • It is a Mazda3, yes... I'll have to wade through the paperwork when I get the car and see where it goes, my mate hasn't had any trouble insuring it up 'til now but I did try and get an online quote on Suncorp and couldn't get past the insurance write off bit...

Another mate has a garage in the city, might have to take the plunge and do my first run into town behind the wheel so he can do the work for me... Shitting myself at the prospect!!! 😂

  • Just keep in mind that a fully functioning, with Rego car may be cheaper than sorting that lot out.

  • I had one, dropped a valve on engine 1, swapped in engine 2 on the street outside my parents house using a single trolley jack and basic socket set. Worked better than engine 1 by some margin. Surprisingly large inside.

Had a lot of issues with engine 1’s carb, and it would diesel.

  • How? I'm getting the car for free, I estimate it'll be $1500 in total for parts and labour if it needs a new intake manifold, light cluster will be $80, new tyres <$400... Less than ten year old car with only 120k on the clock... That's pretty cheap for on the road costs, a half decent used car will cost me much more than that... It actually drives fine as it is but I just wanna get it sorted...

  • Ok that's fair, thought it might have driven to the moon a few times. Not bad Kays at all. Plus I guess a car with known history is good.

Also, I tend to look at old French cars and they're cheap as chips 😉 (to buy)

  • This thing is still going strong. Have put 10,000 on it now with no issues. Swapped out the AC compressor with a $250 part. Now everything works! Not bad for $1600 and 265000 Kay's on it.

  • There's a 2004 Passat with 173.000km on the clock that looks pretty good on Bilbasen. 24.000 DKK. Seems like a really good price and 6500 DKK a year in taxes doesn't seem that steep.

  • That is lovely but I'd never get it past my other half, she was talking about splashing out on a brand new Corolla yesterday... I suggested it'd be preferable to put no0b dents in an old car rather than a new one... 😉

Coincidentally, one of my colleagues just posted her elderly mother-in-law's car for sale on FB... $7k for a nine year old mint condition Yaris with only 28k on it... I must say I was tempted, perfect for us right now but... Free car...

  • Just ride the bunky train, Joe. a new car will get fucked up while you get used to driving.

    three months later...

  • Thanks.
We can't have more than the 4360 tax a year though. Even that is pushing it. We will have to try to rent it out once in a while.

    It's expensive to be poor..

  • three months later...

  • Berlingo then. 3500 a year, I think. Beautiful, spacious, economic. Can be had for less than 10000.
