  • They are great!

  • I had the Sainsbury's mushroom sausages for the first time the other day, they're amazing! Even better than Lindas.

  • Oh, speaking of Lindas, does anyone want a snazzy, quite 90s red/blue/yellow Linda McCartney cycling cap? Send me a PM if you want it for the price of postage. Will get
    photos tomorrow.

    Edit: now gone!

  • Best vegan sausages IMO

    Yes. Yes yes yes.

  • Best vegan sausages IMO.

Agree - caramelised onion are nice plus the cumberland.

The Tesco ones aren't too bad either but I'm not sure they are vegan.

  • This is great!

  • On the Iceland/ no palm oil thing from a few pages back, just read this

    https://qz.com/africa/1465148/iceland-palm-oil-boycott-ad-could-increase-deforestation/

My take out was that if the world needs oil, better that it’s palm oil which is land use efficient than something else?

I know it’s not news in the vegan thread to say that eating less meat is the better way to reduce deforestation.

  • IMO That article is completely off target. It forgets to mention what palm oil is used in, which is processed foods such as biscuits, cake and other shit foods.
Nobody needs oil in their diet and we don’t have to cut down pristine rainforest to get the small amount needed to fry up som veggies.

The answer to that article is stop eating meat, and stop eating processed food.

  • I think the point was that if there is no shift to healthy eating, but there is a shift away from palm oil, there would be an increase in deforestation as more land is needed for soy or other oil source production.

i mean, agreed that the answer is less oil, and less eating animals that are fed on soy beans and the like. So i guess linking deforestation directly to meat production? or am i missing the point?

  • if there is no shift to healthy eating, but there is a shift away from palm oil, there would be an increase in deforestation as more land is needed for soy or other oil source production.

I completely agree. Also on the second part that animal protein production=deforestation, and I think my point was that people should boycott poor foods in general. :)

  • New vegan stuff at Yo Sushi is quite good, especially the mushroom ramen

  • Agree. Had to double check the packaging cos they were so real tasting.

  • I finally found a beyond burger in tesco. They are very good, but hella oily. Iceland No Bull burger is above it I think

  • This fake mince was pretty good. soak it in stock, not water seems to be the trick.

Peanut butter and coffee victoria sponge.

  • I don't think you'd die if you ate those, but to be honest I would just bin them if I were you.

  • Hmmm. I'll let someone else try them. Or feed them to the cat. Or the child.

  • You're kidding, @moocher no way should you throw them out. Especially if they have been sealed air tight, don’t smell bad when opened and cooked properly they’ll be fine. I’d eat them without a second thought. It’s best before date after all. Seriously, don’t waste food cos of a best before date.

  • I absolutely agree it's a shame to bin food, alas I also believe in the ayurvedic "qualities" of food, and (apart from the fact that it's processed, plastic wrapped stuff that actually may not be as healthy as you might think in the first place) this is almost 10 days over the best-before, so would definitely be considered "tamasic".
In other words it may not be "spoiled" yet, there's not actual mould visible, no, but (from the ayurvedic standpoint) this for sure isn't vital food, but rather something that your body most probably will have a hard time digesting, thus taking more energy than giving.
