Pictures are stunning!
What camera did you use? -

Has anyone been touring (99% on road) using a 1x setup?
I'm thinking of using making the switch next year, in order to clear up my parts bin and only have 1 groupset.
Although I made good use of my 36/46 last year.

No for a long one, but did a short tour with my 1x setup - 42t chainring and 11-42 cassette. Highest gear is plentiful, lowest 1.0 which is less than most setups with compact cranks, the only disadvantage is the larger gap between gears, but it makes more difference when group riding than when you can just pick your own pace.

Hey man this is epic! Been planning to do a trip in Georgia next summer. Do you have a gpx track or similar by any chance? Also would you say the roads were rideable with let's say 700x42mm?

just back from my Okinawa 5 day tour, it was very enjoyable, amazing roads courteous drivers even the tipper trucks ! I took to much stuff even for credit card tour could have ditched 1 set of off the bike clothes but my home made flat pack off bike shoes worked well :)
We cycled clock wise from the airport round the whole island i wish we had more time to discover more about the towns and other sights but will go back for a more lazy look at the island.
its the most riding i have ever done in one hit...i loved it :)the west coast is flat so easy cycling the north east, north, and east is hills v short and sharp.
It is such a beautiful place.im not great at write up so a few pics to get the idea.
It was a lot of fun.

That looks amazing!

I had a great time it's so nice to ride there, smooth roads, amazing countryside. We were on a tight schedule and didn't have time to just randomly discover stuff. I really want to go back.
The North and north east was my favorite riding, hilly but quiet roads and no traffic lights for 98k, rolling !! -

Sony NEX-5N looking at the metadata.
Agreed, great photos.

Georgia is small, but a single week it´s too short unless you only go to a certain area! Even two weeks is short, the ideal is probably three weeks.

What would you recommend for a say 15 day trip? I don't think I could get longer off from work but it is a place I want to go to.
Or would you say forget it and do somewhere else until you have the time to do Georgia properly. -

Thanks!
This was the original rout but we did some modifications during the journey: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28294046
There are heavy rough stuff and bike pushing kilometres, so send me a PM if you want some more info and clarifications about it.
There´s no need for camping gear in Georgia, the accommodation is so absurdly cheap it´s totally pointless to carry a tent. There are guest houses almost in every village.

You can find the route above.
I wouldn´t reccomend less than 50mm unless you are strictly doing asphalted roads, but one of the beauties of this country are the Caucasus mountains and the 'gravel' passes there, so you´ll want bigger tyres to enjoy the route with a minimum confort.
Having said that, if you can´t squeeze more than 42mm, go ride with it!

The route above was planned for 15 days, but it was hardcore AF. You don´t want to do more than 80km a day in a trip like this in such a mountainous country, so 800 or 900km might be a good number for 14 days. All that taking into account that you may probably loose a couple of days on planes/airports and visiting Tblisi.

That was the dog of a colombian family of three (+ doggo) travelling the world since march. The poor dog had been attacked the day before by some stray doggos, hence the scars.
I must point out the dogs there are crazy for cyclists (and there are stray dogs EVERYWHERE). Five minutes before I took that picture, a dog jumped from the other side of the road and it was instantly smashed by a van coming in the other direction. Shocking.

Cycled through America this summer, and heres a short vid that came out of it - as long as my old Macbook could handle without dying. Panasonic GH4 + iPhone.

good job

Great video! Looks super. How did you find cycling in the US?

Great job, nice video and ride looks great.

Thanks. Really different to riding in the UK. Big hard shoulders on all roads, so you essentially have your own lane and don’t share with cars. But it does mean they come speeding past which does start to tire after a while. Was mostly on Adventure Cycling Association routes with relatively quiet roads. In short : better than expected.

Nice vid of beautiful scenery. Seemed like you were carrying a fair amount, were the backpacks heavy?
-
• #1897
Backpack contained only my camera, lens, monopod. Wasn’t too heavy, didn’t give me any back trouble.
The rest was food (cooked a lot), tents (one each), tools, more warm gear for the nights which were freezing.
Most of it pretty basic stuff which took up more space. Synthetic sleeping bags, vango banshee tent etc.
Didn’t notice the weight after a few days to be honest. Also can’t really think of anything we could have left behind.

You lot probably think it's well shit because you're hardos and that but pannier.cc is doing a 13 day expedition tour of Outer Mongolia next year for the low price of £1745
There's also Bosnia for £600.
Seems a lot tbh but I wish I had the cash.
-
• #1899
Obviously depends what you're getting for the money but as an ex-bike tour operator that does seem quite good value (disclaimer-haven't looked at either package on offer!)
Edit - thinking about it, again I still haven't actually looked, if you're camping etc. each night, and I would imagine lots of costs in Outer Mongolia are reasonably low, maybe it isn't... maybe I should stop wildly speculating.
Edit 2 - pannier.cc's Outer Mongolia info page is spectacularly thin on any detail or info about what you're getting for your hard-earned, so it's pretty difficult to say whether it's a good deal or not! The jury remains out.
