• Any reason not to stick with 3D24?

With the exception of frames with BB86 shells, which I'd avoid on principle, 3D+ will go into anything which will also accommodate 3D24

  • I've seen a few things about 30mm bearings in a BSA shell being small and not durable. Assume this is hogwash.

What is the difference between 3D+ and "true" BB30? Supposedly BB30 isn't the correct length for BSA shells but 3D+ is? Trying to avoid spacers etc. at all costs.

30mm bearings inside a 1.37" shell are small and utterly useless. The 3D+ is really a BB386EVO¹ design, so it uses external cups to fit 30mm bearings outside the shell. The bearings are then the same section as in a true BB30 or 386EVO (42mm bore) shell.

¹FSA claiming credit where none is due - Zipp Vuma cranks had these dimensions years before FSA came up with a marketing name for it.

The Rotor BSA30 bearings are fine. They're standard Bb30 bearings but outboard. I'd go with 3d+.
