  • Thanks for the kind offer, I actually had a pair of those before but didn't really like them though.

  • Would the Gore stuff work? Some of their overshoes supposedly go to US 15.

  • I'll have a look, thanks!

  • Cheers, no experience with them but good luck.

  • I'm 6 ft, about 30 inside leg.
What size on one inbred should I be looking at? M or L? Think that's 18"or 20"

    Cheers

  • How hard should it be to press in a headset cup?

I've got a shonky DIY press system which has not let me down till now. It's a threaded bar, two bits of wood, two washers and two nuts. It's done a good few headsets in it's life, but pressing in a new FSA Pig bottom cup has been beyond it. Basically, it's gone in fine and straight, but around 1 mm from being flush, it just won't budge any further.

This is a beefy headset so I'm wondering whether the flange on the headset is longer, and the headtube not reamed deep enough to alow it to slip in far enough to snug up properly.

Is this a thing that could happen? I'm trying to track down some wider metal washers/plates to replace the wood, so that any flex/give from that is removed from the equation, but still a bit baffled that it just refuses to go in that last mm.

  • Is this a thing that could happen?

    Yes

  • Gah...do you think it's likely my issue?

  • do you think it's likely my issue?

Since it went most of the way in and then stopped, it seems to be the most likely explanation

  • Confirming all my fears....thank you!

It's got a fresh, but delicate paint job so I'm now looking forward to bashing it out without damaging that, and then filing it down. This has been a pig of a rebuild....

  • Have you got a proper headset cup removal tool? (Long tube with flared ends) They make removing headset cups sooooooooo much easier, and less damagealicious and they're not expensive.

  • Can even make one of those yourself too, bit of pipe, hacksaw the end into quarters and bend outwards, but better to buy one.

  • Is there some way to remove varying length suffixes from file names using adobe Bridge, and just leave the first 6 characters?

  • I'm not sure whether you mean do the renaming using Adobe Bridge or just renaming files generally (after Adobe Bridge has screwed up the filenames). If the latter, this is what I use for all my various renaming http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/108/

  • Yeah, in the past I've knocked them out with a socket extension with as bigger socket as I can fit down the hole.

Was up the steerer from some busted forks for a propper tool bodge, think the metal is too beefy? The splayed part needs to be quite springy...

  • Yeah, bit of copper pipe or something similar, then weigh it in for money for a proper one.

  • Hmmmm, hate splashing out for tools I use less than once a year...think the boiler needs all it's pipes?

  • What's the thread name for that website that has handlebar geometries?

  • Perfection. Thank you.

For heavy lifting, I use https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk
For quick and dirty, I use AF5 from http://www.fauland.com/download.htm which will do "keep the first 6 characters"

  • Well Bridge was my preference, as I already have it installed and it's done the job up until now, but cheers, I'll check that out. You too @mdcc_tester.

  • I'm looking for a track frame that has >420 reach ideally with 550 stack max (so a relatively short head tube at that size).

Essentially, this is the geometry of the Planet X Pro Carbon Track frames (L: stack/reach 537/427, or the 2018 Aventon Mataro (58cm: stack/reach 559/421), or the Low Pursuit (58cm: stack/reach 549/422).

Anyone got any suggestions for frames similar in geometry to those that I could keep an eye out for, which shouldn't be >£300 in decent (used) condition?

  • anyone going up to, or coming down from nottingham over christmas?

  • I've ordered one of these

I reckon the axle might just about be long enough as it is, otherwise will be going for cut down and a hex bolt skewer.
