Is there some way to remove varying length suffixes from file names using adobe Bridge, and just leave the first 6 characters?

I'm not sure whether you mean do the renaming using Adobe Bridge or just renaming files generally (after Adobe Bridge has screwed up the filenames). If the latter, this is what I use for all my various renaming http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/108/

Well Bridge was my preference, as I already have it installed and it's done the job up until now, but cheers, I'll check that out. You too @mdcc_tester.
