IMO That article is completely off target. It forgets to mention what palm oil is used in, which is processed foods such as biscuits, cake and other shit foods.
Nobody needs oil in their diet and we don’t have to cut down pristine rainforest to get the small amount needed to fry up som veggies. The answer to that article is stop eating meat, and stop eating processed food.

I think the point was that if there is no shift to healthy eating, but there is a shift away from palm oil, there would be an increase in deforestation as more land is needed for soy or other oil source production.
i mean, agreed that the answer is less oil, and less eating animals that are fed on soy beans and the like. So i guess linking deforestation directly to meat production? or am i missing the point?
On the Iceland/ no palm oil thing from a few pages back, just read this
https://qz.com/africa/1465148/iceland-palm-oil-boycott-ad-could-increase-deforestation/
My take out was that if the world needs oil, better that it’s palm oil which is land use efficient than something else?
I know it’s not news in the vegan thread to say that eating less meat is the better way to reduce deforestation.
