I think the only models with a date and no cyclops are certain Sea Dwellers and really early Subs.

114270 is probably the pick and you should be able to pick a nice one up for around £4k. The preceding 14270 looks basically the same, just with an earlier movement.
The 1016 is the classic reference that came before that, with the rounder numbers, but it spans literally decades.
The only one you really want to avoid is the early 214270 where they made the case bigger but left the hands the same size, so they're too small (once you see it…), and removed the lume from the numerals. They fixed both of those after a few years.
Is the Explorer the only Rolex workout the bubble?
A local jeweller had a similar watch - used but immaculate for around £8000. Would that be an Explorer or do I need more info?
