  • Went to the local watchmaker. £65 and 3 week wait on the servicing of that baby little Omega. It was ticking fine all week, then today decided not to work. Bit worried, hopefully it will be fine after a well-overdue servicing.

  • Rolex ADs now hoarding

  • Jesus. I'm really starting to fall out of love with Rolex.

Seriously considering selling my modern ones and going on a nice holiday instead.

I know this sounds stupid and it probably is. I know their sales stats are incredible and demand is rocketing. It just feels like they've lost the charm they used to have as a brand.

  • Rolex is having to train people to deal with customers who are being told that there are 90 people ahead of them on a waiting list for a Batman or a Hulk. They are being trained on how to not roll their eyes or chuckle

    Amazing.

  • Speaking of Batman, looks like a new Save The Ocean edition Turtle next year in black PVD with a blue/black bezel.

  • @inchpincher Thanks both. I wear most watches on perlon, always surprised they're not more popular.

Speedy hasn't lost or gained a single second in the ten days I've had it; very pleased.

  • This just back from service at Rolex 1986 datejust, like new with a brand new 2 year warranty.
In the flesh the dial is really lovely . I really like this which is unusual for me.

  • 36mm Model ref 16030

  • Finally got around to reorganising the main watch box...

From left to right, top to bottom:

    1. Explorer I - ref 114270
    2. Grand Seiko - ref sbgw253
    3. Omega Seamaster - ref unknown - late 1950s
    4. Omega Deville - ref unknown - 70s?
    5. Seiko Prospex Tuna - ref SNE498P1
    6. Steinhart ocean 39 - black ceramic
    7. Steinhart ocean 39 - pink gold
    8. Seiko Lordmatic - ref 5606-8100
    9. Seiko Elnix - ref 0703-7020
    10. Seiko automatic - ref 6309-813LR
    11. Seiko Sportsmatic (hidden - no strap) - ref 6601-1830

The rest of the collection are some other random Seiko's, a couple of special edition swatches from various eras and some random old toot.

Wandered past watchfinder in bluewater the other day and they had a nearly new ceramic daytona (black dial - the one I want) in so I tried it on. So did they; £16.5k. LOL.

  • Nice! That Explorer is just the best...

  • Is the Explorer the only Rolex workout the bubble?
A local jeweller had a similar watch - used but immaculate for around £8000. Would that be an Explorer or do I need more info?

  • AND I TELL THEM TO FUCK OFF I WANT MY ROLO NOW.

    .....then promptly burst into tears.

  • Nice collection.

I did an independent survey.... 1 and 7 stand out (the no branding test).

    I like 7 and 10.

But to be fair, 1 then got the streamlined nod. personally, I am curious how 8 and 10 looks on you cause i like how 1 does.

Lovely collection friend. even if its Seiko heavy ;-)

  • God dam i need a 114270.

  • Any Rolex without a date ;)

I think the only models with a date and no cyclops are certain Sea Dwellers and really early Subs.

@Soul very nice box, did you sell the Speedy?

  • Cheers all.

@inchpincher - I sold the speedy probably 18 months ago. Just didn't wear it.

  • I think the only models with a date and no cyclops are certain Sea Dwellers and really early Subs

Any Sea Dweller earlier than the current ref (126600) has no cyclops. The even chunkier Deepsea still does not.

There might be others, I don't know my Rolexii well enough.

  • 114270 is probably the pick and you should be able to pick a nice one up for around £4k. The preceding 14270 looks basically the same, just with an earlier movement.

The 1016 is the classic reference that came before that, with the rounder numbers, but it spans literally decades.

The only one you really want to avoid is the early 214270 where they made the case bigger but left the hands the same size, so they're too small (once you see it…), and removed the lume from the numerals. They fixed both of those after a few years.

  • Most obvious ones are :

    • No-date sub
    • Fisher Price datejust

Hulk. They are being trained on how to not roll their eyes

I'd roll my eyes too if someone wanted to buy a Hulk off me.

  • Yeah, I don't get the Hulk at all, other than it must be some sort of "green Rolexes are rare and valuable!" folklore. I have a friend who's had his name down for a Hulk for a while. Last time he checked he was still 10th on the list at his dealer.
