Right, @inappropriate_bike what bit of the route am I reviewing? Can I have the route again, now that my daughter has arrived things have calmed a little.

Congratulations!
It was the section out of London to Weathampstead.
We need to add a little bit of distance so zig-zagging to stay on nice roads is fine, provided we can easily control at the end of each zig or zag. (ATMs are ideal - if we can ride up to them then it'll only take 2 minutes to get proof of passage and move on).
If you've got some route ideas on how to go north I can search for ATMs and check on rule compliance.

So review the whole route or between certain Km’s?
Roughly how much are we looking to gain? -
• #8731
You'll need about 40km I reckon.
Don't forget - distances are calculated at Google Walking Distances. At the minute, our route is about 425km, but only 396 walking. Which is fine as 360km is the minimum distance to get validated.

James is right - we need 20 to 40km, and it makes sense to use it to get a nicer route.
(The current route is 340km in g-maps walking mode with only 4 controls including the start and finish control.)
But we can easily gain some further north on nice roads just before Peterborough and/or flat miles near Leeds. So there's no need to gain loads of km exiting London unless it improves the route in some way.

@inappropriate_bike
@GoatandTricycleIf you're looking for a route over 400km London to York then I've ridden this:

And to add if you want to get the 4 points the distance between controls at the end of the 24hr need to be more than 400.

That looks good actually

Absolutely.

I can't ride on Sunday sadly; but looking up the event on the AUK calendar I realised the Stansted Express 100 was happening on Saturday. Easy to ECE from North London, would leave around 4:30, 5 from N7. Anybody interested?

Have been tweaking the Arrow Team 2 route to take a nicer exit from London on the lanes via Hertford.
Timings/distance also work well to have lunch at a nice pub next to this:
Going to ride the first part of the route later this month I think. Weather permitting!

Sounds cool! Let me know if you want company on the recce, I might be able to join :)
-
• #8740
Having totally failed in my home work (can I blame my tcr app!?)
I might also be able to join but you know the score... -
• #8741
Will let people know. It'll be last minute when I know, though, thanks to the chaotic mix of kid and weather patterns :-(
-
• #8742
No problem, as long as it's a weekend I might be in. Otherwise not :)

@cgg @GoatandTricycle I'm test riding the first part of Arrow Route 2 tomorrow. 4:45am depart from Vauxhall if anyone wants to come along. Sun and tailwind forecast!
It's about 160km up to Peterborough with no stops planned although there should be time for one if moving fast - got to be there for 12. Dad schedule...

• #8744
Ooof. I was allowed a full nights sleep last night....
I’ll let you know if I dare ask. -
• #8745
If you do, then: the fast train back takes 50 min and you can book a bike space on the GWR website.
The slow train takes 1h20 and doesn't need to be booked. It'll take you to KX, Blackfriars, etc.

How was it?
-
• #8747
@inappropriate_bike that is clashing with prior commitments unfortunately :(
@Ecobeard if I read correctly that's tomorrow as in Sunday. -
• #8748
Yep. It's audax o'clock, 4 lights and 2 Garmins are charged. Time to go :-)
-
• #8749
Lazy bastard
I expect him to do it twice, every weekend, until he gets he right.
