  • They look cool.

Has anyone tried vegan doctor martens?

Or can recommend something better suited to winter / wet weather cycling?

  • we had the chorizo and chicken No Bull Paella last night - pretty good, would bang again - the chorizo wasn't very 'bitey' though

also had the No Bull Jalapeno burgers the other night - not very spicy - pretty much the same as the regular No Bull burgers

I wore these last winter after wearing some ill fitting second hand DM style ones for the previous two winters. Highly recommend them, super comfy and warm. They're waterproof if kept treated properly (done mine once, after they got wet and were waterproof anyway) and have a nice soft lining for warmth. Soles are pretty thick and very stiff though, work fine on big platform pedals with big pins once you kind of lock in, but the rubber is hard so is pretty slippy without pins or on wet cobbles and you'll probably need to raise your saddle a touch.

  • I have a pair. London winters aren't cold enough for them.

For winter riding I have a pair of Amazon special waterproof socks. They work surprisingly well when used with castelli nanoflex leg warmers.

  • Don't get me wrong they look ruddy gorgeous. I'll keep an eye out for a sale :)

  • Vegan Doc Martens are great (have what they call 101 model, i.e. tall classic), but not for every day cycling even on flat wide pedals. Sole is too soft for that I think.

Side note: they were quite roomy in my size, but too small in size down, no 8.5 size exists. So went with my size + an extra insole (outdoors sports shops ftw) and they're perfect. Zero break in period too.

  • they were quite roomy in my size

    Second that.

So went with my size + an extra insole

    Did the same thing.

Have had mine for 5 months and holding up well. Bit pinchy on the heel to begin with but when worn in - super comfy. Go to shoes.

  • Cool thanks for the feedback y’all. Thinking of getting the desert boot looking ones. Don’t want it for warmth so much but as a replacement for my canvas trainers (which get soaked through almost immediately) when it rains! No fun when you’re on a bike for 6+ hours

  • So I visited my sister's cafe Cascara in Bath today. Seemed to be getting a good number of people though the door, offering a range of plant based milks at no extra cost on the base price of the drinks, cakes, some savoury stuff too but she has a pretty limited kitchen so only a small menu.
I know she's my sister so I would say this but it's a really nice little cafe with plenty of seating over 3 floors, and cheaper than a lot of the other local coffee shops. Worth checking out if you're in the westcountry.

  • Go to shoes

    hehe

  • Can I please have some feedback on those vegan Brooks saddles from people that have used them for a while?
    Thanks!

  • I have both the C15 and C17, one on a road bike and the wider one on my touring bike. Overall I am very happy with them. As Brooks say, they're comfy straight out of the box, no breaking in. They've hardly worn at all so still look good and I've had both since their first launch, so quite a while now.

But saying that, I still have one leather Brooks on another road bike (a Swallow) and it is noticeably more comfortable on long rides. I've had it since 2012 so plenty of time to mold into shape.

I'd definitely buy another vegan Brooks as I'll never be buying leather again.

  • Sounds good, thanks for your feedback!

  • I like it when this sort of thing happens, as it's nicely out of the ordinary:

I am Nut OK! is one of my favourite vegan cheese brands (and not just because of the puns).

  • as it's nicely out of the ordinary

probably at the other end of the scale but I feel the same about Iceland.

  • I've been buying those No Bull Burgers for a couple of months.

    Where do you get them?

  • Iceland.

    The shop.

  • Cookdaily in London fields.

    Everyone that can, should go!

  • I've had a C15 for a year, still finding it hard after a couple of hours in the saddle.I poss need to try the narrower C13 which would match the Swallow width. I'm using a San Marco. Someone here suggested the specialized Romin, I'm looking for a black 143 size if anyone's selling?

  • Thanks for your feedback!

  • tried No Bull sausages - essentially the same as the burger - very soft, don't seem to crisp up - prefer Linda M's to be honest

  • My main gripe with the sausages is they are fucking tiny!

Lindas were a fave until I tried the new Sainsbury's shroom sausages (fridge section, not frozen). Best vegan sausages IMO.
