I've got old tiagra (4600) set up on my CdF with BB7 brakes. Stopping power is okay/could be better -- nowhere near as awesome as my Tiagra/Juintech or Rival/Spyres.
Now I'm wondering if it would help if I moved up to 10sp 105 (5700) levers? Will those levers still work with 4600 derailleurs? Looking for a cheap solution and my levers are ratty anyhow ...
Won't make big difference, cable and housing will (the Yokozuna Reaction will improve it considerably, as well as setting up the BB7 as best you can, i.e. make sure arm is fully open but the dial on both sides to adjust pads).
