  • Looking good with the new seat and stem.. what front Rack is that?

  • Thanks! I agree, the old stem and brooks didn't look quite right and had been bugging me for a while.

Rack is the cheapest I could find:

  • Some updates - post, stem -both Thomson - and a Thorn fork

...I keep meaning to take nicer pictures but haven't found the time yet!

  • A few small updates: new VO tall stack stem and PDW mudguards (rear one needs a bit of adjusting).

Still need to find a suitable front rack and also conflicted about the black seatpost/silver stem...but overall satisfied with how it looks and feels

  • Sunday ride cancelled. The bike was ready, but alas I was not...this is the cdf throwing a tantrum.

  • Having taken massive doses of inspiration (and a cassette) from @jambon's CdF (https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/295886/) , I've now gone 1x10 with a superstar raptor chainring and 11-34 cassette in the back. Need to try it out on a longer ride, but so far very pleased.

  • I want to switch to a flat bar set up and see how I get on with it. I'm a bit irked by the non compatibility of the Tiagra 4700 shifters and will also take the opportunity to install an XT M772 RD that will allow me to use a larger cassette.

That said, I'd like to do the changes on a budget and would value some suggestions!

I'm thinking of having bar end shifters fitted on thumbies (probably not paul's because $$$, but maybe the jtek variety instead). Although my set up is 1x10, I thought I might be able to source older bar-ends and use them in friction mode. Any reasons not to do this?

I also really like these nitto B2522AA bars, but they quickly become expensive in the 31.8 version. Any thoughts on similar, more affordable, bars with a bit of sweep back and maybe some rise?

  • Have a look at SJS Cycles for cheaper bars, loads of Humpert brand, one of em should fit the bill.

  • thanks, i'll see what they've got

  • Looking at the drive-side shot from 5 months ago the bike looks great, do like that VO integrated stem/spacer. While on SJS, they sell a Wolftooth RoadLink copy silly cheap should it help with the larger cassette.

  • those really are cheap. great tip!

it's a shame the RD was the first bit I bought :/ I guess I'll have to build a bike around it...

  • new wheels, seatpost, and bar tape. Decided to put the flatbar conversion on hold for now.

  • This is a fun thread - lots of different looks over time. I need to pick one of these up in a 60cm.

  • No you don't! You have the All-city, isn't it just as versatile?

  • It’s great. But the greedy desire for new bikes is a constant struggle.

  • Thanks! The variety of looks reflect my search for maximum comfort...but its also a way of scratching the new bike itch without further cluttering the flat! Contra, @past_bot, I’d say go for the CdF and definitely keep that all city too - its a beauty!

  • In the end I had to scratch the flatbar/mtb mech itch.
Early days, but I think I like it!
(old yellow bar tape provisionally being used as grips, but it might grow on me).

  • Looks great. Do you notice a drop in speed with flat bar?

  • Thanks...It didn't feel any slower to me - in fact it felt nice and nimble, but then I was never too speedy on drop bars either! :D

  • This is lovely!! It solidifies the want for a silver stem on my CDF!

  • I actually have a spare silver VO tall stack stem in 90mm if it works for you?
